Bobby Whitlock, who co-founded Derek and the Dominos with Eric Clapton and played with George Harrison, died Sunday at the age of 77.<\/p>\n
His manager, Carol Kaye, confirmed to \u201cVariety\u201d <\/a>that Whitlock died after a brief bout with cancer.<\/p>\n Whitlock\u2019s wife, Coco Carmel Whitlock, released a statement to CBS News <\/a>saying, \u201cHow do you express in but a few words the grandness of one man who came from abject poverty in the south to heights unimagined in such a short time?<\/p>\n \u201cAs he would always say: \u2018Life is what you make it, so take it and make it beautiful.\u2019 And he did. <\/p>\n \u201cFarewell my Love, I\u2019ll see you in my dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n Clapton posted a message on Facebook.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cOur dear friend Bobby Whitlock, has passed away at 77, our sincere condolences to Bobby\u2019s wife CoCo and his family on this sad day…. RIP Bobby xxx.\u201d<\/p>\n Clapton and Whitlock co-wrote songs for \u201cDerek and the Dominos\u201d on the \u201cLayla and Other Assorted Love Songs\u201d album, including \u201cTell the Truth,\u201d \u201cBell Bottom Blues,\u201d and \u201cWhy Does Love Got to be So Sad?\u201d<\/p>\n He also collaborated with Beatles legend George Harrison on his solo project \u201cAll Things Must Pass.\u201d <\/p>\n Mark Heim is a reporter for The Alabama Media Group.
