A popcorn bucket promoting Eminem<\/a>\u2019s new documentary Stans has been branded \u201cmessed up\u201d by critics.<\/p>\n

The bucket, which is designed to look like a pill bottle, features the fictional character\u2019s name in the 2000 track \u2018Stan\u2019, along with the words \u201cTAKE TO GET OUT OF BED\u201d and \u201cREMEMBER THAT IT\u2019S NOT SO BAD\u201d, a nod to lyrics from the hit.<\/p>\n

In the song, which featured Dido<\/a>, Eminem raps from the point of view of a delusional fan who thinks he shares a parasocial relationship with the rapper.<\/p>\n

Similarly to a bottle of pills the top also says \u201cpush and twist\u201d. While some fans praised the design others criticised the bucket with one branding the idea \u201cvery stupid\u201d while another said: \u201cEminem is so cringe and so is this gimmick. If you buy this it means you support corporations pushing pills on people.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third added: \u201cI don\u2019t think this promotes a good message to the youth they should be ashamed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eminem has spoken openly about his battle with prescription drug addiction in the past. In 2022, he penned a lengthy reflective essay on his struggles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was hospitalised in December 2007 following a methadone overdose, with doctors telling him he had ingested the equivalent of four bags of heroin. He got sober the following year.<\/p>\n

He previously marked 12 years of sobriety in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stans was shown in select theatres over the last week. The first trailer for the documentary was shared last month with a synopsis<\/a>, which read: \u201cIn the song, the titular character handwrites a series of emotional letters to Eminem, repeating the line: \u2018I\u2019m just like you\u2019. That refrain serves as a guiding light for this unconventional and fully authorised feature, which follows a highly curated cast of real-life stans whose deep personal connections to Eminem mirror some of the themes found throughout his lyrics.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It continued: \u201cMore than just an exploration of fandom, the film examines the complicated relationship between one of the world\u2019s most private artists and his massive public persona. Through stylised recreations, rare archival footage, intimate interviews, and an exclusive original interview with Eminem himself, it offers a raw, loud, and revealing journey across his career \u2013 and the passionate audience that has grown with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film, which is co-produced by Eminem, had its premiere at SXSW London<\/a> earlier this year, and those who took part in the project were fans who responded to a survey distributed by his team last year.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Jo Whiley recently recalled an interview with Eminem<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Dr. Dre<\/a>\u00a0that made her \u201cfeel so tiny and so stupid<\/p>\n

His last album, \u2018The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Gr\u00e2ce)\u2019 was given a three-star review from NME<\/a> upon its release last summer, which read: \u201cMuch more powerful is \u2018Temporary\u2019, a genuinely moving ode to his daughter, Hailie, which proves Marshall Mathers can say something that matters when he wants to.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, who killed Slim Shady? In bringing him back to the light and showing him up as irrelevant, perhaps Eminem\u2019s done his old pal in for good. OK, we get it \u2013 Shady was a shocking character. Now that he\u2019s dead, how about getting some new material?\u201d<\/p>\n
