Fort Worth leaders have agreed to invest $40 million toward a new public parking facility that will form part of Texas A&M University\u2019s downtown campus project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The garage<\/strong> will be built beneath the university\u2019s planned Research & Innovation Building. It will feature four above-ground parking levels for public use, with space for about 440 vehicles, plus one underground level reserved exclusively for the university. Above the parking structure, a 14-story academic tower will rise as the centerpiece of the new campus.<\/p>\n

The funding will come from two tax increment financing districts \u2014 the Downtown district and the Lancaster Corridor district \u2014 each contributing $20 million.<\/strong> These districts use growth in property tax revenues to fund improvements.<\/p>\n

City officials emphasized that the allocation will not reduce resources for other projects, pointing to steady increases in district property values.<\/p>\n

Oversight of the design and construction will be handled by the Research & Innovation Local Government Corporation, established in 2023 to manage the campus development. The city\u2019s $40 million commitment<\/strong> is the maximum it will contribute. Texas A&M will maintain and operate both the public garage and the underground university parking, as well as the new academic building.<\/p>\n
