{"id":136909,"date":"2025-08-11T12:23:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T12:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/136909\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T12:23:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T12:23:09","slug":"power-restored-at-newly-rebuilt-jean-ribault-high-school-after-brief-outage-on-first-day-of-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/136909\/","title":{"rendered":"Power restored at newly rebuilt Jean Ribault High School after brief outage on first day of school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The newly rebuilt Jean Ribault High School in Northeast Jacksonville experienced a power outage on the first day of school on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Around 7:20 a.m., JEA told News4JAX that power had been fully restored \u2014 just in time to welcome students on their first day of school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department told News4JAX the issue seemed to be related to electrical arcing, which occurs when electricity jumps a gap between two conductors, creating a spark and intense heat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">JEA said the issue was reported as a \u201cdamaged power pole,\u201d but the cause of the outage is still unclear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to get beyond this. We will be OK. Once the power is on, we will be up and running,\u201d Principal Gregory D. Bostic told News4JAX.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Two Duval County public schools that got an overhaul were set to open to students for the first time on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A well-known school in Northwest Jacksonville, Jean Ribault High School, has a brand new look to start the upcoming school year after it was torn down and rebuilt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ribault is the first new high school built under the half-penny sales tax.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThere\u2019s so much pride in this school. If you know anything about Jean Ribault, you know that the alum come in force. Not just athletic events, but to support the students,\u201d school board member Darryl Willie said Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Willie said nearly 1,500 kids are going to experience the $58 million, 234,000-square-foot campus. It\u2019s an awesome opportunity for the entire Duval County. It allows two students from two separate schools to come together.
