{"id":137750,"date":"2025-08-11T19:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T19:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/137750\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T19:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T19:48:12","slug":"penndot-seeks-to-fill-seasonal-positions-for-winter-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/137750\/","title":{"rendered":"PennDOT seeks to fill seasonal positions for winter season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DUNMORE \u2014 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials touted the benefits of securing seasonal employment with the state agency \u2014 including the opportunity to potentially land a permanent job \u2014 during a media event Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>PennDOT Engineering District 4 \u2014 which covers Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties \u2014 seeks applicants for various positions through its Winter Maintenance Program from September through April including transportation equipment operators with commercial driver\u2019s licenses, diesel and construction equipment mechanics, auto mechanics, laborers and radio dispatchers in all counties, said Lonell Tomaine, assistant district executive for maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you enjoy working in a fast-paced, team environment on a seasonal basis, or with the potential for promotion into a permanent position, this is a job for you,\u201d Tomaine said. \u201cPennDOT anticipates numerous retirements over the next several years, so it\u2019s extremely important for us to actively recruit and develop our employees. CHAD SEBRING\/STAFF PHOTO\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tomaine added District 4, on average, uses 100,000 tons of salt and more than one million gallons of brine to treat its roads.<\/p>\n<p>While it may seem early to be thinking about winter storms, Carl Kmiec, a PennDOT field human resource officer for District 4, stressed its vital to fill the roles quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very important that we have the operators waiting and ready to go when they\u2019re needed,\u201d Kmiec said. \u201cThey will start the first week of September.
