{"id":137831,"date":"2025-08-11T20:30:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T20:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/137831\/"},"modified":"2025-08-11T20:30:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T20:30:12","slug":"top-30-wta-player-confirms-shell-be-playing-at-the-us-open-despite-injury-scare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/137831\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 30 WTA player confirms\u00a0she\u2019ll\u00a0be playing at the US Open despite injury scare"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The US Open is drawing ever closer with players looking to be in the best physical condition ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/cincinnati-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Open<\/a> is the current tournament hosting the top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA<\/a> players, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Open<\/a> champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/victoria-mbokos-coach-reveals-the-real-reason-why-she-withdrew-from-the-cincinnati-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Victoria Mboko has decided to skip the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/victoria-mboko\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mboko<\/a> is not the only big name missing the ATP\/WTA 1000 tournament, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jimmy-connors-admits-the-one-thing-that-worries-him-about-novak-djokovic-ahead-of-the-us-open-this-year\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Novak Djokovic has also withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite entering the Cincinnati Open, another WTA player has withdrawn mid-tournament, causing concern about her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> participation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2229247670-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine reacts against Tatjana Maria of Germany during the Women's Singles Second Round match on day three of the Cincinnati Open 2025 at Lindner Family Tennis Center.\" \/>Photo by Daniel Kopatsch\/Getty ImagesMarta Kostyuk confirms she will play the US Open after injury scare<\/p>\n<p>World number 27 Marta Kostyuk made a hugely impressive start to her Cincinnati Open campaign, beating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/tatjana-maria-explains-what-winning-queens-has-shown-everyone-after-defeating-four-top-15-players-en-route-to-the-title\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Queen\u2019s champion Tatjana Maria<\/a>, 6-0 6-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian was then set to play her next match against third seed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iga Swiatek<\/a>, but she has now withdrawn ahead of the encounter.<\/p>\n<p>Kostyuk retired from her Canadian Open quarterfinal due to a wrist injury that caused her to leave the court in tears, and she has now confirmed that the same injury has caused her to pull out of the Cincinnati Open.<\/p>\n<p>In a message on Instagram, Kostyuk admitted that she was in pain, but confirmed that she was still planning to head to New York for the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wrist injury I sustained in Montreal has been a challenge these past days,\u201d said Kostyuk. \u201cI gave everything to be ready for Cincinnati. With the help of my incredible team, I managed to step on court and finish my match yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt meant a lot to compete despite the pain, but I need to listen to my body. I\u2019ll focus on healing, getting stronger, and coming back ready. Thank you, Cincinnati.
