singles match at the Cincinnati Open.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/ben-shelton-and-victoria-mboko-both-post-just-one-word-on-instagram-after-winning-the-canadian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelton has just won the Canadian Open<\/a>, which is the biggest title of his career so far.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of his victory, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/how-the-atp-top-10-rankings-look-after-the-toronto-open-with-new-spots-for-ben-shelton-and-novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelton has been rewarded with a new career-high ranking<\/a> and looks to be in good stead ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/andy-roddick-has-noticed-two-major-improvements-ben-shelton-has-made-after-he-wins-in-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelton continued to showcase his improved form<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/cincinnati-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cincinnati Open<\/a>, before making a decision about his doubles participation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" after his first singles win<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ben-shelton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelton<\/a> spent less than an hour on court for his opening match at the Cincinnati Open, with his opponent Camilo Ugo Carabelli retiring due to injury.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old was also entered into the doubles draw alongside young Canadian player Gabriel Diallo.<\/p>\n<p>However, very shortly after Shelton left the singles court, it was confirmed that he and Diallo had withdrawn from the doubles tournament and would be replaced by an alternate pair.<\/p>\n<p>While it has not been confirmed who made this decision, it would not be surprising if it was Shelton due to his busy recent schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Although he will not be playing doubles in Cincinnati, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/ben-shelton-tells-tennis-fans-what-to-expect-when-he-plays-mixed-doubles-with-taylor-townsend-at-the-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" Open anymore, but he is still very much involved in the singles tournament.<\/p>\n<p>His next opponent will be former top 10 player Robert Bautista Agut, who Shelton will likely be confident he can beat.<\/p>\n<p>Shelton and Bautista Agut have played twice before on hard courts, with the American winning in straight sets on both
