(WLUC) – The Hancock School Public Library is putting used books up for sale this weekend.

These books are either donations or trimmed from the library’s collection. This year’s sale is made up of mostly adult, young adult and teen fiction books. According to Library Manager Boni Ashburn, previous sales were more nonfiction-oriented.

“In the past, we replaced a lot of the nonfiction that was outdated and such,” Ashburn said. “And now we’ve moved into the fiction section.”

Ashburn says this has been an ongoing process since the Portage Lake District Library began managing the library.

“We were eliminating things that hadn’t checked out in 20-30 years,” Ashburn continued. “Now, we’re up to 5-10 years. A lot of the materials that will be in the used book sale will be newer than we’ve had in the past.”

Each book is pay-by-donation, meaning you decide how much you want to pay for a book. All proceeds go toward supporting the library.

“The money that’s raised remains here in the library,” Ashburn said. “We usually pick a different thing to focus on for the money to be used towards. In the past, it has benefitted a certain collection in the library or brought in a certain kind of shelf or furniture.”

The sale runs Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The video above will feature the TV6 livestream until staff can clip the corresponding story, if available, from broadcasts or other TV6 content.
