{"id":138537,"date":"2025-08-12T02:38:26","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T02:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/138537\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T02:38:26","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T02:38:26","slug":"asu-partners-with-games-for-change-to-give-students-credit-for-video-game-based-achievements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/138537\/","title":{"rendered":"ASU partners with Games for Change to give students credit for video game-based achievements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Arizona State University has partnered with a nonprofit to educate students through video gaming.<\/p>\n<p>Through the partnership with Games for Change, students will earn microcredentials, or digital badges for participating in \u201chackathons\u201d or picking up skills from playing games.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Ollila is the founding director of ASU\u2019s Endless Games and Learning Lab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019ll be continually excited students that are sharing their micro credentials around what they\u2019ve learned in games based learning. And it\u2019s really having that acknowledgement that there\u2019s a lot of criticism around games, but games are so powerful in terms of the learning that can come from it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>He cited SimCity as an example of how people can learn about urban planning and resource management.<\/p>\n<p>Ollila says the gaming and learning lab focuses on using games not just as a learning tool but as an economic opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>He says games serve as an important resource.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the big emphasis I really want to have is that games are a powerful tool for achieving scale for examining and understanding learning that&#8217;s been taking place while you&#8217;re making games and playing games,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Arizona State University has partnered with a nonprofit to educate students through video gaming.
