{"id":138541,"date":"2025-08-12T02:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T02:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/138541\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T02:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T02:40:10","slug":"former-harris-county-jailer-wanted-in-luxury-car-theft-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/138541\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Harris County jailer wanted in luxury car theft scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 A Harris County detention officer who resigned while under investigation earlier this year has been charged in a fraudulent car theft scheme after allegedly renting a luxury vehicle then selling it on Facebook Marketplace. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Stevie Mosley, 23, is charged with felony fraudulent transfer of a vehicle along with her co-defendant, 24-year-old Andrea Johnson. Both are currently wanted. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Mosley resigned from the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office in April while under internal affairs investigation for fraternization with an inmate and was later determined to be ineligible for rehire, a spokesperson for HCSO told KPRC 2. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The inmate she was being investigated for closely associating with is Johnson, her now co-defendant, who was in custody at the time for another case, according to a law enforcement source. <\/p>\n<p><b>What happened<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In late July, a Houston man who owned a Lexus ES 300 listed it with Top Tier Fleet, a local company that rents out luxury vehicles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Mosley and Johnson rented the vehicle for four days, according to company owner Christopher Orji.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cShe didn\u2019t have anything wrong with her records,\u201d Orji said. \u201cEverything really checked out.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But soon after renting, the vehicle got listed on Facebook Marketplace for sale for $10,000, according to court records, under a profile name of \u201cAmber West,\u201d which appears to be a profile with an AI-generated photo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt was a whole fiasco,\u201d Orji said. \u201cThis is the first time this has ever happened to me. Like I\u2019ve never had a vehicle get stolen at all.&#8221; <\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The women stopped responding to messages and a tracker on the vehicle went dead, so Orji and his business partner Obi Ezewudo tried to hunt it down with little luck and ultimately activated the kill switch. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But a man, who didn\u2019t want to be identified, had already bought the vehicle after inquiring about the Facebook listing and meeting with the women at an apartment complex off Washington Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Mosley appeared at their first meeting on July 27 wearing a Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office uniform with an armored vest, called herself law enforcement, and presented a badge, according to records. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt looked like a very good deal &#8230; a little bit too good to be true,\u201d the victim said. \u201cI was raised to trust the cops (and) she kept saying, \u2018I\u2019m law enforcement,\u2019 you know, in a uniform.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HCSO said employees who resign are expected to return their gear, but Mosley had not done so. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After test driving the Lexus and his trust being built up because he thought he was buying from law enforcement, the victim paid a $2,000 deposit via Zelle. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The next day, he told investigators he sent an $8,000 wire transfer to Mosley\u2019s account, but she claimed it didn\u2019t come through and asked for an additional $3,500 so he could get the key fob. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The victim received a bill of sale from Mosley with the name \u201cAmber West\u201d on it and was told that he would receive the title in the mail in the future. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He met them again on a third day about purchasing a Toyota Camry, according to records, and expressed interest in investing in their \u201cauto business.\u201d He also gave them $4,500 more for the Camry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But days later, after the kill switch had been activated, the victim had the Lexus towed to a dealership on the Katy Freeway. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He learned the vehicle was registered to a different man, who never agreed to sell it when he listed it for rental with Top Tier Fleet. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous. I don\u2019t think this is something that anyone should be dealing with,\u201d Orji said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In total, the victim lost $18,000, according to records, and the owner of the Lexus got his vehicle back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cTo just trick me with some uniform, but it\u2019s like, a real uniform &#8230; I\u2019m ashamed,\u201d the victim said. \u201cThey should not let their uniform just be loose out there, their ID, to just be loose out there.
