{"id":138545,"date":"2025-08-12T02:42:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T02:42:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/138545\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T02:42:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T02:42:15","slug":"revisiting-chicagos-sizzling-summers-tracking-90-degree-days-through-the-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/138545\/","title":{"rendered":"Revisiting Chicago&#8217;s sizzling summers: Tracking 90-degree days through the years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/7c336064-wx-1.png\" alt=\"\" data-v-7d0efd03=\"\"\/> article <\/p>\n<p data-v-7d0efd03=\"\">Ten-day high temperature graph starting Tuesday, Aug. 12. <\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\"><strong>CHICAGO<\/strong> &#8211; Another scorching hot weekend is expected to engulf most of the Midwest starting on Friday.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Earlier this summer, we took a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/weather\/chicago-summers-tracking-90-degree-days\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">how the year 2025 stacked up against the last 67 years<\/a> in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Specifically, we dove into how many days during a given year that we can expect the daily high temperature to reach 90 degrees or hotter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Since July 21, we have added seven more 90-degree days, bringing the total to 25 days.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The year of 2025 in Chicago has already exceeded the last four years in terms of 90-degree days. According to this criteria, the summer of 2025 ranks among the top 20% hottest summers in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/wx-2-1.png\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The data analyzed was sourced from O&#8217;Hare International Airport, where their weather station has kept a data log of weather variables since 1959.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Stats at a glance<\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul original-article-post=\"\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">Average number of 90+ degree days per year : 17 days<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">Year with most 90+ degree days : 1988 (47 days)<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">Year with the least 90+ degree days : 1967, 2004, and 2014 (3 days)<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-ct\" data-v-03e8ff79=\"\">90+ degree days so far in 2025 : 25 days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/wx-3-1.png\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  Looking forward <\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The average last day that Chicagoans see a high temperature reaching 90 degrees is Aug. 30. Thus, about one-fifth of the summer remains, and at our current pace, Chicago could see about seven more 90+ degree days bringing our expected grand total to 32 days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Only 1983, 1987, 1988 and 2012 currently outpace the total number of 90+ degree days that we&#8217;ve seen so far in 2025. It is important to note that this is a purely statistical analysis and does not factor in the influence of current meteorological observation or forecast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">According to the Climate Prediction Center\u2019s 3 &#8211; 4 week Temperature Outlook, Chicago is forecast to have equal chances of seeing temperatures above or below the climatological average temperature (~80\u00b0).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">This year will probably not break any records, but with another heat wave approaching this weekend, 2025 will surely rank high on the all-time list in recorded history at O&#8217;Hare.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/wx-4.png\" alt=\"Courtesy of NOAA\u2019s Climate Prediction Center as of August 8, 2025\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">As our daylight dwindles and autumn approaches, it is important to keep in mind that September on average sees two 90+ degree days, specifically in Chicago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/tag\/weather\" class=\"tags-tag\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Weather<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/tag\/us\/il\/cook-county\/chicago\" class=\"tags-tag\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"article Ten-day high temperature graph starting Tuesday, Aug. 12.
