\n\tMichael Chiklis<\/a> is standing up for 2005\u2019s \u201cFantastic Four.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a recent interview with Collider<\/a>, Chiklis, who played Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in \u201cFantastic Four\u201d and its 2007 sequel \u201cRise of the Silver Surfer,\u201d said the two Marvel blockbusters were \u201cunderrated\u201d at the time of their release, and critics who panned the films \u201cgot it wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere were a lot of people, I think, critically who got it wrong,\u201d Chiklis said. \u201cThey really maligned our films, and they were very underrated considering\u2026 they were very loved by the audience. It was one of those cases where critics weren\u2019t great to those films, but the audience was, and that still remains.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cI\u2019ve always sort of quietly gone like, \u2018Okay, say what you want to say, but the people see it.\u2019 And now all these years later, people are sort of acknowledging like, hey, these films are family-friendly, fun movies\u2026 they got a lot right. They may be imperfect, but they\u2019re really good movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBoth mid-aughts \u201cFantastic Four\u201d films have seen some renewed interest with the recent release of \u201cThe Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/a>.\u201d However, upon their debut, they were hardly critical darlings. \u201cFantastic Four\u201d sits at 28% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, while \u201cRise of the Silver Surfer\u201d sits at a slightly improved 37%.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough they weren\u2019t critically beloved, Chiklis noted that both films achieved some commercial success.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe made three quarters of $1 billion, those two movies,\u201d he added. \u201cSo, you know, all those people can\u2019t be completely out of their minds, you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIoan Gruffudd, who starred alongside Chiklis as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, recently told Vulture they originally planned to make three \u201cFantastic Four\u201d films, but the would-be trilogy was ultimately cut short.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe mindset was that we were going to do three, and I think the second movie was equally successful as the first and equally enjoyable for the fans,\u201d Gruffudd said<\/a>. \u201cI particularly loved working with Doug Jones [as the Silver Surfer] on that movie, who\u2019s just a terrific artist and an expert in the field of movement. If you want to witness somebody bringing a character to life physically, he\u2019s just untouchable.
