CHICAGO \u2014\u00a0The rain came out of nowhere.<\/p>\n

There were two outs in the top of the ninth inning between the Detroit Tigers<\/a> and Chicago White Sox<\/a> on Monday, Aug. 11, when rain poured on Rate Field in Chicago, resulting in a rain delay.<\/p>\n

The game resumed after a 63-minute delay.<\/p>\n

Before the rain, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead over the White Sox in the ninth inning on Spencer Torkelson’s solo home run off the foul pole against left-handed reliever Brandon Eisert.<\/p>\n

JEFF SEIDEL: <\/strong>Tigers’ July was awful \u2014 but it clearly set them up for success in August<\/a><\/p>\n

The Tigers and White Sox couldn’t end the game early.<\/p>\n

Here’s why: Because the Tigers, as the away team, took the lead in the top of the ninth inning before the delay, the White Sox were entitled to play the bottom half of the inning.<\/p>\n

Had the rain not let up, Monday’s game would have been suspended until Tuesday, Aug. 12.<\/p>\n

The Tigers and White Sox remain scheduled to play at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday in the second game of the series, then 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the series finale.<\/p>\n
