Daniil Medvedev has suffered yet another early exit at a tour-level event in 2025, crashing out in his opening round at the Cincinnati Open. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Russian lost to Adam Walton after going up a set against the Australian, marking a third defeat in his last six matches, all of which were played on his preferred hard-court surface. <\/p>\n

So far during the North American swing, Medvedev has lost in the <\/a>quarterfinals<\/a> of the Washington Open, bowed out in round three of the Canadian Open<\/a>, and has now exited Cincinnati in the second round. <\/p>\n

Following his defeat, the former ATP<\/a> number one faced the media and tried to explain his recent dip in performance. <\/p>\n

Speaking after the match, Medvedev<\/a> said: \u201cIt was very tough physically and, unfortunately, in these conditions, I think physicality becomes the priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, when I lack full confidence, and my physical condition fails me, there are not any shots that can bail me out, so to speak. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if I had chances in the second set, in the third, I just couldn\u2019t move anymore. It\u2019s frustrating, it\u2019s disappointing. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a tough period, but situations like that happen in tennis. All I can do is keep looking for a way out, which I haven\u2019t found yet. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems I am still far from finding it, but I\u2019ll find it eventually. In tennis, there can be many problems, and they can be related to different things, whether on or off the court. <\/p>\n

\u201cPhysically, again, it\u2019s tough for everyone in the heat, but I don\u2019t know why it\u2019s tougher for me now than before. I mean, I need to find the reasons, but I don\u2019t know yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev says physical preparation is now becoming the \u2018key factor\u2019 for him<\/p>\n

Medvedev said of the conditions in Cincinnati: \u201cIt was very hot, as I said. I really think physical preparation plays a huge role in these conditions. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think as long as I was not completely exhausted, the match was fairly close. At least I understood what I was doing on the court. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut at one point, when I got tired, I couldn\u2019t react to his serve on return like I did before. I was always starting the rally in a defensive position, and I couldn\u2019t move as well anymore either; that\u2019s why it\u2019s really frustrating.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think in many matches these days, physical preparation becomes the key factor.\u201d<\/p>\n
