Initially based on the map first created for 2009’s Star Wars: The Essential Atlas (which depicted the version of the Star Wars Expanded Universe that is now classified as Star Wars Legends), the design has been updated to showcase a pretty comprehensive map of the canon timeline. The website promises updates for the map as more works across the multimedia franchise are released, so if something appears to be missing, then it will likely be added with time.

Aside from the planets and interstellar objects of note, there are also depictions of the regions and trade routes that make up the “galaxy far, far away”, which provides quite a bit of context about how everything fits together in terms of the timeline and narrative structure. The galaxy is a vast place, and it’s quite easy just to get lost with all the planets listed – which themselves only represent a selective portion of its overall size as the setting is continuously fleshed out.

Also included is an extensive appendix that delves into great detail about what’s contained in one corner of the galaxy to another. One last thing of note is that this only includes planets within the galaxy that we’re most familiar with and not everything within the greater Star Wars universe that we’ve seen – for instance, places like Kamino, which is in the Rishi Maze system, or Peridea, which is in the far galaxy, are not accounted for. While they might not be in the metaphorical Jedi Temple archives on Coruscant, they do exist – just not on this map.

Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen.
