Year-to-date, Jack\u2019s shares are down a staggering 58%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The San Diego-based chain, which has a strong Lone Star State presence, has struggled in recent years. In the spring, Jack in the Box announced a plan to pay down its debt and shutter <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.jackinthebox.com\/news\/news-details\/2025\/Jack-in-the-Box-Inc--Unveils-JACK-on-Track-Plan-to-Improve-Long-Term-Financial-Performance\/default.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">between 150-200 underperforming stores<\/a>. Although Jack in the Box has simultaneously announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantbusinessonline.com\/financing\/jack-box-has-some-big-growth-plans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ambitious expansion plans<\/a>, its most recent earnings report suggests things are going from bad to worse. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">That could have trickle-down effects on Texas \u2015 Jack in the Box\u2019s second-largest market \u2015 and by extension the greater Dallas area, where dozens of locations sit within relatively close proximity of each other. <\/p>\n<p>Business Briefing<\/p>\n<p class=\"dmnc_features-cta-social-cta-social-module__zWZy- mb-4\">Become a business insider with the latest news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The Lone Star State houses 580 Jack in the Box locations. Four Texas cities rank among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xmap.ai\/blog\/number-of-jack-in-the-box-restaurants-in-the-united-states\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">top 10 U.S. cities<\/a> with the largest number of Jack in the Box locations. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"body-text-list\">\n<li>#1: Houston (98)<\/li>\n<li>#5: Dallas (38)<\/li>\n<li>#7: San Antonio (33)<\/li>\n<li>#9: Fort Worth (22)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Jack in the Box may need to rally its die-hard customers, who get 24\/7 access to a western frontier of affordable grub like breakfast tacos, burgers and even egg rolls. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">However, that menu hasn\u2019t been appetizing enough to lure in foot traffic, and CEO Lance Tucker is vowing to reverse the sales decline. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In the restaurant closure plan announced in April, Jack in the Box indicated that roughly 80 to 120 of those affected are set to take place before the end of 2025. Specific locations remain unknown. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In an effort to get back to the basics, improvements are being focused on better customer experience, consistent quality across menu items, and more training and support for restaurant employees. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cAs I look longer term, the entire guest experience requires improvement in the coming months and years,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qsrmagazine.com\/story\/jack-in-the-box-unveils-new-remodel-program-amid-sales-slump-and-store-closures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tucker said during the company\u2019s earnings call.<\/a> \u201cThe value equation has gotten a bit off track across the broader QSR industry and Jack in the Box is no different.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The value equation that\u2019s led Jack in the Box astray \u2015 a commitment to fast service and 24\/7 egg roll availability. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a difficult task at Jack in the Box simply because so much of the equity relies on variety,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qsrmagazine.com\/story\/jack-in-the-box-unveils-new-remodel-program-amid-sales-slump-and-store-closures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tucker said.<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s making sure how do you keep as much variety out there on the menu for the guest while maybe trying to make it a little simpler in the back of the house.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Still, Jack in the Box isn\u2019t sure its business strategy can offset national market trends impacting fast food chains \u2013 including a decline in low-income consumer spending on fast food, especially among <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantbusinessonline.com\/financing\/tough-hispanic-market-hits-jack-box-sales\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hispanic customers<\/a>, which are plentiful across Texas and the D-FW. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cJack-in-the-box significantly over-indexes with hispanic guests, who, especially in our core markets, face uncertainty and have pulled back on their spending,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantbusinessonline.com\/financing\/tough-hispanic-market-hits-jack-box-sales\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tucker told analysts<\/a>, according to a transcript of his remarks. \u201cThis issue is having an outsized impact on our sales.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">With Texas home to both a large Hispanic population and a dense network of Jack in the Box locations, the local market may soon see changes.
