{"id":139472,"date":"2025-08-12T10:52:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T10:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/139472\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T10:52:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T10:52:09","slug":"ohio-teen-author-focuses-on-spreading-kindness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/139472\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio teen author focuses on spreading kindness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLUMBUS, Ohio \u2014 Most 13-year-olds spend their free time on homework, friends and after-school activities.<\/p>\n<p>But for Carsyn Todd, much of that time has gone into writing and publishing a book that\u2019s inspiring kindness in her community.<\/p>\n<p><b>What You Need To Know<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carsyn Todd, a 13-year-old from Columbus, wrote and published a book called \u2018Young Heroes, Big Hearts\u2019, to encourage small acts of kindness every week<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Despite balancing school, friends and gymnastics practice, Carsyn worked closely with her publisher to make the book a reality<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Carsyn hopes her book will inspire other kids to practice kindness and plans to become a teacher, forever cherishing the feeling of holding her finished book for the first time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Carsyn\u2019s book, &#8220;Young Heroes, Big Hearts,&#8221; began as a kindness journal, a way to encourage small acts of kindness every week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw a lot of people at school being mean,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018What\u2019s the point of this? How can we change this and make this better?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She came up with the idea of the book, filling it with different acts of kindness prompts, all while balancing school, friends and gymnastics practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery other week I talked to my publisher,\u201d Carsyn said. \u201cShe\u2019d give me homework, like what font I wanted, what color, and how I wanted the setup in the book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her mom, Debbie Todd, helped keep the process moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of this journey too is knowing that diagnoses don\u2019t define you,\u201d Debbie said. \u201cCarsyn has ADHD, so we had to adjust. When we would do different tasks, she had to come up with different quotes. We could only do so many at a time because her brain was like, \u2018I\u2019m done.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Debbie said she\u2019s watched her daughter\u2019s confidence grow through the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s given her more confidence and more trust in herself that she can do things, more of a voice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Carsyn hopes her book will inspire other kids to look for opportunities to be kind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope everyone sees it and looks for something to be kind about instead of just walking past,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She plans to become a teacher and said she\u2019ll never forget holding the finished book for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the best feeling,\u201d she said. \u201cI looked at it and I was like, wait, this is what I\u2019ve been wanting the entire time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Carsyn, one act of kindness at a time can add up to something much bigger.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"COLUMBUS, Ohio \u2014 Most 13-year-olds spend their free time on homework, friends and after-school activities.
