Fate was presenting\u00a0Detroit<\/a> Red Wings draftee Michal Svrcek with the opportunity to play his trade across the Detroit River this season. And he turned it down.<\/p>\n

In the CHL Import Draft, he was selected by the OHL\u2019s Windsor Spitfires<\/a>. A team that\u2019s a stone\u2019s throw from Little Caesars Arena was pursuing Svrcek. Nonetheless, he\u2019ll be keeping the Atlantic Ocean between his home rink and Hockeytown.<\/p>\n

Svrcek is opting to remain in Sweden with Brynas.<\/p>\n

\u201cI agreed with my agent (Allan Walsh) and Detroit management that I will stay in Brynas for one more season, where I will try to start the season in the first team,\u201d Svrcek told Slovak website TVnoviny<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Windsor’s first pick Michal Svrcek was a favourite of @RVBScouting<\/a> this year at @mckeenshockey<\/a>. Detroit selection is a pesky, goal scoring winger who would be a potential 30 goal guy in the OHL next year.<\/p>\n

Svrcek spent much of last season with the Brynas club in Sweden\u2019s junior league. If he manages to land a full-time spot with the club\u2019s SHL squad, he would be teammates with former NHL star Nicklas Backstrom and former Red Wings defenseman Robert Hagg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last season, Svrcek saw action in 17 SHL games for Brynas. The 18-year-old left-winger accounted for a goal and two assists.<\/p>\n

Red Wings Pick Recalls Meeting Yzerman<\/p>\n

Detroit\u2019s 119th overall selection in the 2025 NHL entry draft, the first person Svrcek heard from after becoming part of the organization was Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteve Yzerman called me almost immediately,\u201d Svcek said. \u201cIt was a moment I will remember for a very long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few days later, he\u2019d been meeting Stevie Y face to face at the Red Wings development camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe congratulated me and said that they were extremely happy that they had chosen me,\u201d Svrcek said. \u201cHe emphasized that I should not stop working on myself and wished me a successful camp.\u201d<\/p>\n

His initial taste of NHL life left Svrcek craving more.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the first training session, I was literally blown away,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were divided into two groups, and seeing the players, the pace, it\u2019s incomparable.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re on the ice with hockey players who are among the best in the world. A huge school and an experience that I would give to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
