Perhaps not given his work commitment to ABC\u2019s \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live,\u201d but he\u2019s certainly giving himself an exit plan if needed by obtaining Italian citizenship this year. Celebrities such as Rosie O\u2019Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres fled the U.S. last fall after Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election. Kimmel confirmed on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-sarah-silverman-podcast\/id1533130572\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Sarah Silverman Podcast\u201d<\/a> (via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/jimmy-kimmel-prepared-to-move-to-italy-to-escape-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Beast<\/a>) that a door is open for him to follow suit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cA lot of people I know are thinking about, where are they going to get citizenship?\u201d Silverman said about the reaction to Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI did get Italian citizenship,\u201d Kimmel replied. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on [with Trump] is as bad as you thought it was gonna be. It\u2019s so much worse; it\u2019s just unbelievable. I feel like it\u2019s probably even worse than he would like it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKimmel regularly bashes Trump during his late-night monologues, so much so that <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/jimmy-kimmel-trolls-trump-canceled-late-night-host-alleged-epstein-letter-1236467078\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump has boasted <\/a>that \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d will be the next late night show canceled after CBS gave the ax to Stephen Colbert and \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d Kimmel responded to Trump <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DMaq0CjxJZH\/?igsh=cDZla2JoMXQ0ZjJ4\" target=\"_blank\">with this comment<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m hearing you\u2019re next. Or maybe it\u2019s just another wonderful secret.\u201d The phrase \u201cwonderful secret\u201d is a reference to a Wall Street Journal story, published July 17, that claimed Trump sent a letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003 that was included in a birthday album of well-wishes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tO\u2019Donnell, who also bashes Trump on a consistent basis, moved to Ireland in the wake of Trump\u2019s victory. When <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/rosie-odonnell-and-just-like-that-ireland-trump-1236399222\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently asked by Variety <\/a>if she had plans to return to the states, she answered: \u201cWith the current political climate, when would it be safe to come back with my child? I\u2019m not going to push it before this administration is completely finished, and hopefully held accountable for their crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs for Kimmel, he explained to Silverman during the podcast interview that he does not hold any grudges against those who voted for Trump if they decide to change their minds and join the opposition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cNow you see these clips of Joe Rogan saying, \u2018Why is he doing this? Why are you deporting people?\u2019 And people go, \u2018Fuck you! You supported him.\u2019 I don\u2019t buy into that,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cThe door has to stay open. If you want to change your mind, that\u2019s so hard to do. If you want to admit you were wrong, that is so hard and so rare to do.
