{"id":140009,"date":"2025-08-12T15:39:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T15:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/140009\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T15:39:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T15:39:12","slug":"atp-top-20-player-suggests-hes-playing-the-us-open-despite-retiring-from-his-first-match-at-the-cincinnati-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/140009\/","title":{"rendered":"ATP top 20 player suggests he\u2019s playing the US Open despite retiring from his first match at the Cincinnati Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The US Open is rapidly approaching, with many ATP and WTA players using the Cincinnati Open to prepare for the Grand Slam.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Cincinnati Open is now well underway, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> top two Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz both in action at the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>High-profile stars Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton are also taking on the tournament in a bid to fine-tune their games for Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/jannik-sinner-and-carlos-alcaraz-have-just-exposed-a-problem-on-the-atp-tour-which-needs-to-be-fixed-quickly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner and Alcaraz withdrew from the Canadian Open<\/a> after Wimbledon, but have now returned to the court as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> nears.<\/p>\n<p>Their fellow ATP star Novak Djokovic did, however, withdraw from the event, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jack-draper-pulls-out-of-two-tournaments-before-the-us-open-as-he-confirms-injury-he-picked-up-at-wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Draper withdrawing from Cincinnati and Toronto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2229656531-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jannik Sinner of Italy in action against Gabriel Diallo of Canada in the third round of the men's singles at the Cincinnati Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.\" class=\"wp-image-119777\" \/>Photo by Frey\/TPN\/Getty ImagesATP top 20 player suggests he\u2019s playing the US Open despite Cincinnati retirement<\/p>\n<p>One player who took on both tournaments was Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, but he was frustratingly forced to retire during both events.<\/p>\n<p>The world number 18 has now issued an update on his current status, accompanying a status on X with a strong suggestion that he\u2019ll be fine for the US Open.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/atp-cincinnati-open-2025-who-is-playing-how-to-watch-and-what-is-the-prize-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Cincinnati Open 2025: Who is playing, how to watch and what is the prize money<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s never easy to retire from two tournaments in a row, this year I\u2019ve played a lot of matches and always given my 100%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot taking time off or skipping weeks has caught up with me. I\u2019ve learned my lesson. I don\u2019t have any pain or cramps, I simply didn\u2019t have enough time to recover energy-wise from everything accumulated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, after many months, I\u2019m enjoying some rest and recharging alongside my wife.
