{"id":140079,"date":"2025-08-12T16:18:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T16:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/140079\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T16:18:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T16:18:17","slug":"eddie-van-halens-1982-guitar-to-be-auctioned-5-years-after-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/140079\/","title":{"rendered":"Eddie Van Halen&#8217;s 1982 Guitar to Be Auctioned 5 Years After Death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A model based on his classic \u201cFrankenstein\u201d guitar could fetch several million dollars in October<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tNearly five years after his death, one of Eddie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/van-halen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_van-halen\" data-tag=\"van-halen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Van Halen<\/a>\u2019s most recognizable guitars will be auctioned off for the first time this fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAs part of a rock collectibles sales by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/auction\/\" id=\"auto-tag_auction\" data-tag=\"auction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">auction<\/a> house Sotheby\u2019s, the public will be able to bid on a 1982 Kramer guitar that he played onstage with the rock band Van Halen in 1982 and 1983; it was also featured in a much-seen TV ad for the guitar company. With its black and white spray-panted stripes, the guitar resembles Van Halen\u2019s famous \u201cFrankenstein\u201d from 1975 and is on that same design.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-rollingstone-2022\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/eddie-van-halen-guitar-embed-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"0\" width=\"840\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCourtesy of Sotheby\u2019s<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA few years after those Van Halen shows, according to Sotheby\u2019s, Van Halen gifted the instrument to his guitar tech, Robin \u201cRudy\u201d Leiren. (The guitar sports an inscription to Leiren.) Leirin ultimately sold it to M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce\u2019s Mick Mars, who used it on the band\u2019s Dr. Feelgood album. The guitar\u2019s current owner is not known and, as with many such auctions, has requested anonymity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen the instrument will be put on display tomorrow in Monterey, California, Sotheby\u2019s claims it will be \u201cthe first time the guitar has appeared on public view in 40 years.\u201d The actual auction will take place in late October, when the guitar is expected to fetch between $2-3 million.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe sale won\u2019t be the first time any of Van Halen\u2019s axes have been put on the market. In late 2020, just two months after his death, three of them sold for a combined $422,000 at Julien\u2019s Auction. One was actually a prop guitar used by the child actor in Van Halen\u2019s \u201cHot for Teacher\u201d video. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSince then, the value of Van Halen\u2019s collection has clearly ramped up.
