Syracuse, N.Y. — Central New York could tie or break a heat record today as temperatures soar into the 90s again.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, there\u2019s a chance for a slight relief from the heat and some much-anticipated rain as a cold front moves through.<\/p>\n
The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 95 degrees this afternoon in Syracuse. That would tie the Aug. 12 record, set in 2002.<\/p>\n
A high of 95 would also tie for the hottest day of 2025 so far. The temperature reached 95 degrees <\/a>on June 24.<\/p>\n Today would be the fourth consecutive day of temperatures in the 90s in Syracuse. Three in a row constitutes an official heat wave.<\/p>\n Syracuse usually sees about 10 days of 90 degrees or hotter each year. So far in 2025 there have been 15 days that hot.<\/p>\n Humidity will be high today, too, making the air feel several degrees warmer than the thermometer indicates.<\/p>\n We\u2019ll get a slight reprieve Wednesday through Friday, when a cold front — relatively speaking — pushes through Upstate New York. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s.<\/p>\n \u201cThis front will bring widespread and much-needed showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening,\u201d the weather service said<\/a>.<\/p>\n The rain likely won\u2019t be enough to make up the deficit of the past few weeks, when little rain has fallen across most of the area. <\/p>\n By the weekend, high temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s.
