{"id":140248,"date":"2025-08-12T17:45:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T17:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/140248\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T17:45:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T17:45:20","slug":"when-restaurants-receive-stars-and-why-it-matters-to-dallas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/140248\/","title":{"rendered":"When restaurants receive stars and why it matters to Dallas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Big news for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/11\/discover-every-single-michelin-restaurant-in-texas\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/11\/discover-every-single-michelin-restaurant-in-texas\/\">Texas chefs<\/a>: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2024\/11\/11\/dallas-fort-worth-michelin-star-restaurant-winners\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2024\/11\/11\/dallas-fort-worth-michelin-star-restaurant-winners\/\">next set of Michelin star winners<\/a> will be released Oct. 28, 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">On that date, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/07\/16\/michelin-guide-texas-reviews-dallas-fort-worth-restaurants\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/07\/16\/michelin-guide-texas-reviews-dallas-fort-worth-restaurants\/\">chefs from Texas\u2019 five biggest cities<\/a> \u2014 Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio \u2014 will gather in Houston for the second consecutive year for a rapid-fire awards show crowning the best restaurants in the Lone Star State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">At the invitation-only awards at Houston\u2019s Wortham Center for the Performing Arts, chefs and restaurant owners find out whether they\u2019ve received a coveted Michelin honor. Awards include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"body-text-list\">\n<li>A star \u2014 available as a 1-, 2- or 3-star award, with 3 going to the highest-achieving restaurants <\/li>\n<li>A Bib Gourmand, for restaurants that provide \u201cgood food at moderate prices,\u201d according to Michelin<\/li>\n<li>A Green Star, for sustainability efforts<\/li>\n<li>A Recommended honor, offered to restaurants that offer a great meal but haven\u2019t earned star status yet<\/li>\n<li>Michelin sometimes adds special awards at its discretion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/13\/how-a-26-year-old-dallas-bartender-became-a-michelin-winner\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/13\/how-a-26-year-old-dallas-bartender-became-a-michelin-winner\/\">like 2024\u2019s Exceptional Cocktails Award given to Dallas bartender Julian Shaffer<\/a>, who worked at Rye on Greenville Avenue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Restaurant News<\/p>\n<p class=\"dmnc_features-cta-social-cta-social-module__zWZy- mb-4\">Get the scoop on the latest openings, closings, and where and what to eat and drink.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">North Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/04\/28\/tatsu-dallas-one-michelin-star-expand-new-restaurant-kappo-tatsu\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/04\/28\/tatsu-dallas-one-michelin-star-expand-new-restaurant-kappo-tatsu\/\">had just one restaurant, Tatsu<\/a>, that received 1-star status in 2024. Fort Worth had none. It was Texas&#8217; first Michelin Guide ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Shafkat Anowar \/ Staff Photographer<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">It isn\u2019t a surprise, several chefs told The Dallas Morning News, that Texas restaurants didn\u2019t earn a 2- or 3-star award in the inaugural year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">That first year was \u201ca milestone for the Texas restaurant industry,\u201d said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, in a prepared statement. And, indeed, chefs in Dallas-Fort Worth have added tasting menus to their restaurants more in the past year than ever before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Poullennec said Texas restaurants have \u201ca rich heritage.\u201d The restaurants the Michelin Guide highlights are intended to be travel destinations \u2014 in part, because Michelin is a tire company. The French company started publishing a guide about 100 years ago in an effort to get Europeans in their cars, traveling to new places.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe look forward to unveiling our inspectors\u2019 findings in the coming months,\u201d the international director said. Watch owners react: nervous, surprised, elated<\/a>Why Michelin matters<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Last year marked the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/11\/discover-every-single-michelin-restaurant-in-texas\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/11\/discover-every-single-michelin-restaurant-in-texas\/\">first-ever Michelin Guide Texas edition<\/a>. It was a turning point for Texas cuisine, a signal that restaurants in the five major cities were worthy of international attention from critics and travelers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Across Texas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/11\/discover-every-single-michelin-restaurant-in-texas\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/11\/discover-every-single-michelin-restaurant-in-texas\/\">116 restaurants<\/a> received some sort of recognition. In Dallas-Fort Worth, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2024\/11\/11\/dallas-fort-worth-michelin-star-restaurant-winners\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2024\/11\/11\/dallas-fort-worth-michelin-star-restaurant-winners\/\">28 took home awards, mostly in the Recommended category<\/a>. But hundreds of chefs will vie to get their names added to Guide, keep their position within it \u2014 or better it. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">More difficult, still, chefs do not know when the anonymous inspectors will visit their restaurants. Said another way: Every day could be an important day to shine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Dallas chef Dean Fearing called Michelin \u201cthe monkey on your back.\u201d His restaurant Fearing\u2019s received Recommended status in 2024. No doubt, Fearing and his colleagues in Dallas-Fort Worth will fret over when a critic will unknowingly waltz into their restaurants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">After all, Michelin\u2019s rating system is often considered the gold standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/02\/27\/dallas-man-visited-every-texas-michelin-starred-restaurant-roadtrip\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/02\/27\/dallas-man-visited-every-texas-michelin-starred-restaurant-roadtrip\/\">for global foodies<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s the Olympics of food, where only the best and brightest restaurants in the world get a medal,\u201d we wrote in 2024 when it was first announced the awards would come to Texas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt suddenly puts Dallas on the same level as any restaurant city in the world right now,\u201d veteran North Texas chef Stephan Pyles told The Dallas Morning News last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">For now, chefs will wait impatiently to see if they get an invitation to the ceremony in Houston on Oct. 28, 2025. If they do, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/09\/30\/invitations-go-out-michelin-guide-texas-who-will-win-dallas-chefs\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/09\/30\/invitations-go-out-michelin-guide-texas-who-will-win-dallas-chefs\/\">they win something<\/a> \u2014 though we won\u2019t know what until the evening of the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The Michelin Guide Texas ceremony is Oct. 28, 2025 at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in Houston.
