SAN ANTONIO – A late-night confrontation behind a South Side body shop ended with a man and killed Monday, after a dispute between a security guard and two men who frequent a drainage ditch behind the property, police said.<\/p>\n
The shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. off Southwest Military Drive near Pleasanton Road. <\/p>\n
Police said the 35-year-old security guard, who was hired to protect the property, had ongoing problems with one of the men. <\/p>\n
Investigators said the guard approached the man when a friend of the victim stepped in, telling the guard to leave him alone. The friend then reached for what the guard believed was a firearm. That’s when the security guard pulled his weapon and fired, striking the 41-year-old man in the chest.<\/p>\n
The victim was rushed to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. <\/p>\n
Police detained the security guard at the scene. No word on if he’ll face any charges. <\/p>\n
Detectives from the San Antonio Police Department\u2019s homicide unit are reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses and determining whether the guard\u2019s actions constitute a criminal offense.<\/p>\n
