He previously was a beat writer for the New York Daily News and is a graduate of Syracuse University.<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FLORHAM PARK, N.J. &#8212; <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"732d3caf-b350-1e34-48c6-b7cebb4a0d88\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/nyj\/new-york-jets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Jets<\/a> backup quarterback <a data-player-guid=\"93cc8c92-8d08-5c88-80eb-a0b20a7621d7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/14163\/tyrod-taylor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyrod Taylor<\/a> will miss the remainder of the preseason after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery to correct an ailment that has sidelined him for more than a week.<\/p>\n<p>It was termed a &#8220;minor scope&#8221; by coach Aaron Glenn, though he couldn&#8217;t say for sure that Taylor will be ready for the season opener against the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"debcd592-8d53-71f1-fc15-5c8b8ef9df6e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/pit\/pittsburgh-steelers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> on Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think he&#8217;ll be playing in the preseason,&#8221; Glenn said Tuesday after a joint practice with the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"378600ea-2397-8364-8399-b7c1606a49a7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/nyg\/new-york-giants\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Giants<\/a>. &#8220;But, hopefully, he&#8217;ll be ready for Week 1.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>Taylor, 36, entrenched as the No. 2 quarterback behind <a data-player-guid=\"7e9fbd60-951e-2d9a-8d8c-b3f1ab6c4a4d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4362887\/justin-fields\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Fields<\/a>, has battled injuries throughout his career. In recent years, he has suffered injuries to his ribs, wrist, hamstring and head (concussion), not to mention a punctured lung after a pain-killing injection by the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"84caf62b-c753-71ea-a787-44fd224a4294\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/lac\/los-angeles-chargers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> team doctor in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Jets&#8217; other quarterbacks are former UFL standout <a data-player-guid=\"84b0cc1e-59f9-d277-d8a0-491330bb1bb8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4361182\/adrian-martinez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adrian Martinez<\/a> and undrafted rookie <a data-player-guid=\"1be5581c-a14f-3df5-9a87-539c6e3d3a9d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4429435\/brady-cook\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brady Cook<\/a>, who limped off the field Tuesday with an injured ankle. It&#8217;s not believed to be serious, Glenn said.<\/p>\n<p>If Taylor can&#8217;t make it back for the opener, the Jets would go into the game without an experienced backup. Martinez, who spent last season on the practice squad, has no regular-season experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is Year 15 for him and, of course, he&#8217;s seen a lot of things and has played in a lot of games,&#8221; Fields said of Taylor, who served as <a data-player-guid=\"5fbab03e-2816-55ab-ae10-83b132803d9e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/8439\/aaron-rodgers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Rodgers<\/a>&#8216; backup last season. &#8220;It&#8217;s great having him in the room, for sure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another key backup, wide receiver <a data-player-guid=\"efb9e109-6a52-37da-1424-91a8b1dbdbea\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3128390\/allen-lazard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen Lazard<\/a>, will be sidelined two weeks with a right shoulder injury from Saturday&#8217;s preseason opener against the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"06cd3bcf-7a86-53d4-28e7-aa049dd36261\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/gb\/green-bay-packers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Green Bay Packers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There was some positive injury news as rookie tight end <a data-player-guid=\"18bfacb3-3ea0-3fe9-86a0-d0d9be7b43c2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4808766\/mason-taylor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mason Taylor<\/a> (high ankle sprain) and left guard <a data-player-guid=\"8084526b-2e12-f702-92cb-6f97d2b3a284\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4035479\/john-simpson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Simpson<\/a> (back) returned to practice.
