Arizona\u2019s 4-1 win over Chicago<\/a>.<\/p>\nAccording to a White Sox spokesperson, the security staff at the ballpark relayed that the fan was \u201cvery apologetic and remorseful after the fact, and admitted to being very inappropriate and stupid with his comments.\u201d<\/p>\n
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo and bench coach Jeff Banister asked for the fan to be removed from the game. Before Wednesday\u2019s series finale, Lovullo said he \u201chad little bit of an interaction with the fan\u201d as he was yelling at Marte.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe wasn\u2019t getting it and was very pompous, and it didn\u2019t sit right with me,\u201d Lovullo said. \u201cIt was just a gross comment you wouldn\u2019t say about anybody, let alone someone who lost their mom.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need better baseball fans. Baseball deserves better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Marte\u2019s mother, Elpidia Valdez, died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in 2017. Marte, who hit a solo home run in the first inning Tuesday night, was seen visibly upset during a pitching change in the bottom of the seventh as Lovullo put his arm around his player and consoled him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just reacted as a dad would when I went out to change pitchers,\u201d Lovullo said, according to the Arizona Republic. \u201cI could see he was sobbing. It hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n
“(I told him): \u2018I love you and I\u2019m with you, and we\u2019re all together and you\u2019re not alone. No matter what happens, no matter what was said or what you heard, that guy is an idiot. It shouldn\u2019t have an impact on you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Marte declined to comment on the incident through a team official. Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo said the fan \u201cshould be banned, for sure\u201d and called for Major League Baseball to intervene.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat can\u2019t happen,\u201d Perdomo said. \u201cWe can\u2019t continue to do that … here in MLB.\u201d<\/p>\n
