This is not what the Mets envisioned when they gave Frankie Montas a $34 million contract.<\/p>\n

Manager Carlos Mendoza announced before Tuesday\u2019s game against the Braves that Montas is out of the rotation and moving to the bullpen.<\/p>\n

The Mets have not determined who will take his place in the starting rotation on Saturday. He will be available out of the bullpen beginning Thursday.<\/p>\n

Prospects Nolan McLean and Brandon Sproat could be options for Saturday\u2019s start.<\/p>\n

After missing nearly the first three months due to a lat injury suffered during spring training, the 32-year-old has struggled mightily since making his season debut on June 24.<\/p>\n

In eight appearances (seven starts) Montas has a 6.38 ERA with 32 strikeouts, 12 walks and eight home runs allowed.<\/p>\n

The Mets tried using an opener for him during his last appearance on Saturday, when he allowed three runs (one earned) in three innings of relief.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Montas signed a two-year contract with the Mets during the offseason that carries a player option for 2026.<\/p>\n
