Shares in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia also gained more than 1%. <\/p>\n<p>The recent rally in share prices has been driven partly by relief over an <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-trade-tariffs-china-deadline-ad2c003e9a709a1dfdfc9a9fd3798baf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extended truce<\/a> in President Donald Trump\u2019s trade war with China, and partly by persisting hopes the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates. Those were reinforced by a moderation in the consumer price index in July. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsia woke up in full risk-on mode, riding the coattails of a U.S. session that looked like someone hit the \u2018infinite bid\u2019 button after CPI didn\u2019t blow the inflation doors off,\u201d Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a commentary.<\/p>\n<p>China and the U.S. agreed to extend by 90 days the pause in drastically higher tariff rates to allow more time for talks on a broad trade agreement. Although uncertainty over what the negotiations will yield remains, the truce has relieved pressure on companies and countries across Asia that rely heavily in supply chains routed through China. <\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng surged 2.5% to 25,596.90, while the Shanghai Composite index added 0.5% to 3,683.46.<\/p>\n<p>In Japan, relief over the Trump administration\u2019s confirmation that its exports will face a flat 15% U.S. import duty has driven strong buying of computer chip-related companies and other exporters. <\/p>\n<p>The Nikkei 225 gained 1.3% to 43,274.67.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea\u2019s Kospi advanced 1.1% to 3,224.37. In Australia, the S&amp;P\/ASX 200 shed 0.6% to 8,827.10. <\/p>\n<p>Taiwan\u2019s Taiex was up 0.9% and the Sensex in India gained 0.4%. In Bangkok, the SET climbed 1%. <\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the S&amp;P 500 rose 1.1% to top its <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/stocks-markets-tariffs-trump-eu-72eaa68a1a9e4079a5ff7adb89a51315\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">all-time high <\/a> set two weeks ago. It closed at 6,445.76. <\/p>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.1% to 44,458.61, while the Nasdaq composite jumped 1.4% to set its own record of 21,681.90.<\/p>\n<p>Intel\u2019s stock rose 5.6% after Trump said its <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/intel-china-trump-ai-cotton-bessent-lutnik-4fa333fa6134d01aca85f64bcd7972fb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEO has an \u201camazing story,\u201d <\/a> less than a week after he had <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/intel-trump-tan-cotton-ai-china-492a8d9353cd2396ec03ce1d844d0fd4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demanded Lip-Bu Tan\u2019s resignation<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Circle Internet Group, the company behind the popular USDC cryptocurrency that tracks the U.S. dollar, climbed 1.3% despite reporting a larger loss for the latest quarter than analysts expected. It said its total revenue and reserve income grew 53% in its <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/circle-ipo-stablecoin-usdc-tether-nyse-b39736690f28824bdd06cfd2ad98dcf3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first quarter as a publicly traded company<\/a>, which topped forecasts. <\/p>\n<p>The better-than-expected report on inflation raised hopes the Federal Reserve will have the leeway to cut interest rates at its next meeting in September. <\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s report said U.S. consumers paid prices for groceries, gasoline and other costs of living that were overall 2.7% higher in July than a year earlier. That\u2019s the same inflation rate as June\u2019s, and it was below the 2.8% that economists expected. <\/p>\n<p>Lower rates would give a boost to investment prices and to the economy by making it cheaper for U.S. households and businesses to <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mortgage-rates-housing-interest-financing-home-1831d4d6a716370de822f9851e65e3ee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">borrow to buy houses<\/a>, cars or equipment. President Donald Trump has angrily been calling for cuts to help the economy, often <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114953049546233760\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insulting the Fed\u2019s chair personally <\/a> while doing so. <\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/federal-reserve-powell-trump-rates-99d90bab1ba2faa0fc5d4a6106125da7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fed has hesitated,<\/a> worried that <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-tariffs-deadline-delay-d8ffef07d944dc1d460b472e4ffd2f57\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump\u2019s tariffs <\/a> could make inflation much worse. <\/p>\n<p>The Fed will get one more report on inflation and another on the U.S. job market, before its next meeting, which ends Sept. 17. The most recent jobs report was a stunner, coming in <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jobs-unemployment-economy-trump-federal-reserve-68a15f89d68793a6cf88a522ff33246c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">much weaker than economists expected<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Critics say the broad U.S. stock market is looking expensive after its surge from a bottom in April. That\u2019s putting pressure on companies to deliver continued growth in profit. <\/p>\n<p>In other dealings early Wednesday, U.S. benchmark crude oil dropped 26 cents to $62.89 per barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, declined 21 cents to $65.92 per barrel. <\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar fell to 147.52 Japanese yen from 147.84 yen.
