{"id":142420,"date":"2025-08-13T12:57:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T12:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/142420\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T12:57:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T12:57:10","slug":"tirso-ornelas-homers-twice-jp-sears-wins-first-el-paso-start-san-diego-union-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/142420\/","title":{"rendered":"Tirso Ornelas homers twice, JP Sears wins first El Paso start \u2013 San Diego Union-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With <strong>Ram\u00f3n Laureano<\/strong> and<strong> Ryan O\u2019Hearn<\/strong> in the fold, the Padres suddenly have more left fielders than they need.<\/p>\n<p>And they still have <strong>Tirso Ornelas<\/strong> developing at Triple-A El Paso.<\/p>\n<p>Ornelas homered twice on Tuesday, leading Triple-A El Paso to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.milb.com\/gameday\/chihuahuas-vs-aces\/2025\/08\/12\/779905\/final\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">9-7 win<\/a> at Reno.<\/p>\n<p>The blasts pushed Ornelas\u2019 total to five in this challenging season. He made his MLB debut in April, but he was just 1-for-14 with an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts in seven games and he went on to miss nearly two months with a mild case of plantar fasciitis.<\/p>\n<p>Ornelas went 0-for-5 in his return on Friday, 1-for-4 on Sunday and on Tuesday drove in four runs on his two blasts.<\/p>\n<p>Ornelas is hitting .291\/.375\/.429 with 34 RBIs in 50 games. He hit .297\/.367\/.497 with 23 homers and 89 RBIs in 128 games last year at Triple-A El Paso.<\/p>\n<p>Catcher <strong>Rodolfo Duran<\/strong> (.803 OPS) drove in two runs on three hits and second baseman Will Wagner (.964 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits.<\/p>\n<p>Left-hander <strong>JP Sears<\/strong> (1-0, 3.60 ERA) struck out three and allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in five innings in the win in his first start since his demotion from the majors.<\/p>\n<p>El Paso is 62-52.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s scoreboard<\/p>\n<p><strong>DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (55-54)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.milb.com\/gameday\/missions-vs-drillers\/2025\/08\/12\/781846\/final\/box\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tulsa 8, Missions 5:<\/a> SS <strong>Francisco Acu\u00f1a<\/strong> (.706 OPS) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored. DH <strong>Albert Fabian<\/strong> (.836 OPS) and RF <strong>Moises Gomez<\/strong> (.685 OPS) both had two hits and 3B <strong>Devin Ortiz<\/strong> (.651 OPS) had a double. RHP<strong> Victor Lizarraga<\/strong> (7.36 ERA) allowed four runs in three innings in the start. RHP <strong>Garrett Hawkins<\/strong> (3.60 ERA) allowed two runs on three walks and two hits.
