{"id":14249,"date":"2025-06-25T19:00:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T19:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/14249\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T19:00:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T19:00:12","slug":"20-years-after-taco-land-murders-san-antonio-music-scene-honors-legacy-with-ram-jam-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/14249\/","title":{"rendered":"20 years after Taco Land murders, San Antonio music scene honors legacy with Ram Jam festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Two decades after the deadly shooting that shook San Antonio\u2019s music community, friends and fans of the legendary bar and music venue Taco Land are coming together to honor the lives lost \u2014 and the legacy left behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">This week marks the 20th anniversary of the double murder of Taco Land owner Ram Ayala and doorman Doug Morgan. The two were shot and killed during a robbery at the iconic Grayson Street venue in 2005. A third person, bartender Denise Koger, was critically injured but survived.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Morgan and Ramiro &#8220;Ram&#8221; Ayala photo courtesy: Claude Morgan (Claude Morgan)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">To mark the anniversary, a two-day music festival dubbed the 20th Anniversary Ram Jam is being held this weekend in their memory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The event will feature more than 20 bands, including six that Ayala considered his favorites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThis is a celebration for our fallen brothers, Ram Ayala and Doug Morgan,\u201d said Roland Fuentes, a former Taco Land promoter and one of the event\u2019s organizers. \u201cRam spawned a lot of bands. Some of those band members became record label owners, club owners, even lawyers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Taco Land, which began hosting live music in the late 1980s, quickly became a haven for local talent and underground acts. Fuentes described it as a \u201clittle underground mecca\u201d that shaped the city\u2019s creative scene for generations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt was weird because back then, we knew everybody who was doing something, but we never got to see the end product,\u201d Fuentes said. \u201cNow, 20 years later, we get to see what everybody\u2019s been doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Though the original venue has long since closed, Taco Land\u2019s influence still looms large.
