They call Manhattan \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/news\/this-is-what-gen-z-is-calling-manhattan-now-020724\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work island<\/a>.\u201d They do not want to start <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/31\/business\/gen-z-bar-etiquette.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a bar tab<\/a>, thank you very much. And they think New York City is one of the best places in the world for their generation of people born from 1995 to 2012.<\/p>\n<p>How do we know? Well, we surveyed readers from across the globe about what it\u2019s like to live in their cities, and based on the responses from\u00a0this demographic specifically, we\u2019re pleased to introduce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/news\/the-worlds-best-cities-for-gen-z-to-live-in-according-to-gen-z-081325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time Out\u2019s first-ever ranking of the Best Cities for Gen Z<\/a>. This global list was created by Gen Z, for Gen Z. These results highlight the\u00a0cities where the next generation truly thrives. Keep scrolling for the full list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/news\/the-worlds-best-cities-for-gen-z-to-live-in-according-to-gen-z-081325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The world\u2019s best cities for Gen Z to live in\u2014according to Gen Z<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Topping the list is Bangkok, thanks to standout scores in happiness (84% of Gen Z respondents say they\u2019re happy living there) and affordability (71% say it\u2019s a budget-friendly place to live). Melbourne, Australia, comes in next on the list, followed by\u00a0Cape Town, South Africa, then our very own\u00a0New York City.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gen Z praised New York City as the most &#8220;exciting&#8221; on the list.
