{"id":142942,"date":"2025-08-13T17:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T17:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/142942\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T17:31:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T17:31:09","slug":"jason-bourne-treadstone-rights-picked-up-by-universal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/142942\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Jason Bourne,&#8217; &#8216;Treadstone&#8217; Rights Picked up by Universal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u00a0After briefly exiting the studio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jason-bourne\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jason-bourne_1\" data-tag=\"jason-bourne\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Bourne<\/a> is making Universal his permanent home.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>NBCUniversal announced today that it has acquired all\u00a0rights, excluding publishing, to Robert Ludlum\u2019s popular Jason Bourne and Treadstone book series, in perpetuity.\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>As the studio notes, the deal fortifies the future of the Bourne franchise across the NBCUniversal arms, and will pave the way for new installments for Ludlum\u2019s beloved character and the spy world he inhabits.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The move follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/jason-bourne-reboot-eyed-universal-1236148097\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the exit of the screen rights in March<\/a>, when WME began shopping the rights to the spy franchise and the rest of the Robert Ludlum library on behalf of the late author\u2019s estate.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cSince its debut in 2002, the iconic\u00a0Bourne\u00a0franchise has reshaped the spy genre with groundbreaking films that set\u00a0new standards for cinematic action,\u201d said Universal Pictures president Peter Cramer in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re energized to continue expanding the\u00a0Bourne\u00a0universe into the future with exciting new\u00a0stories for global audiences.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Under the new agreement, producer Frank Marshall will continue to work on new installments of the film series. Marshall, who also produces the Jurassic World movies for the studio, has been involved with the Bourne movies since the very first one in 2002.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cWe are thrilled that the\u00a0Bourne\u00a0franchise will remain at Universal,\u201d stated Jeffrey Weiner, chairman and CEO of Captivate Entertainment and the executor of Ludlum\u2019s estate. \u201cWe look forward to working with the Universal team to expand the\u00a0Bourne\u00a0franchise across Universal\u2019s varied platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJason Bourne sprung from the mind of novelist Ludlum, who published The Bourne Identity\u00a0in 1980. Two decades later, star Damon and director Doug Liman introduced him to the big screen with 2002\u2019s\u00a0The Bourne Identity. The film, coming a few years before Daniel Craig\u2019s grounded reinvention of James Bond with\u00a0Casino Royale, ushered in a new era of spy movies that favored realism rather than high-tech gadgets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt spawned two sequels based on Ludlum\u2019s books,\u00a0The Bourne Ultimatum\u00a0(2004) and\u00a0The Bourne Supremacy\u00a0(2007). Universal extended the franchise with Jeremy Renner playing a different character in 2012\u2019s\u00a0The Bourne Legacy, but it did not stick.
