Detroit first-team offense drove all the way down the field in just 54 simulated seconds. The final play was an intended pass to Jameson Williams that fell incomplete, but there was an illegal contact penalty on Miami away from the play. The Lions didn’t even bother kicking what would’ve been the game-winning, chip-shot field goal. Instead, the whistles were blown and players started exiting the field.

But just seconds later, Lions receiver Jameson Williams was seen throwing punches at a Dolphins defender, and it just so happened to be former Lions safety Ifeatu Melifonwu. The scrum only lasted a couple seconds before the entire team converged on both players to break up the scuffle, and no one was hurt. But the moment stands out as a high-intensity moment in what was otherwise a somewhat mild day in terms of emotions overflowing. There were pushes and shoves throughout practice—nothing out of the ordinary—but Williams’ scrap with Melifonwu a bit more intense.

Melifonwu turned down interview requests from reporters, but told a few as he was walking by that “it’s football.”

Williams, on the other hand, went right to Instagram to share his feelings.

Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown didn’t see exactly what transpired between the two, but also downplayed any sort of grudge between the two players.

“I’m not sure what happened. I was late to it,” St. Brown said. “It was probably just competing, probably some exchanges of words. I’m not sure. I think it’s just guys competing at the end. Jamo probably wanted to catch that (final pass).”

Melifonwu was a third-round pick for the Lions in 2021. He played out his entire rookie contract in Detroit, leaving this offseason by signing a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins.

Detroit Lions Wednesday joint practice with the Miami Dolphins ended with a whimper from the Dolphins defense after…

[10
27705,69755,41715,62,67,132,68
0":"post-143116","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sports","8":"tag-detroit-lions-news","9":"tag-detroit-lions-preseason","10":"tag-detroit-lions-training-camp","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
