(Photo by Jakub Porzycki\/NurPhoto via Getty Images) <\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\"><strong>NEW YORK<\/strong> &#8211; New York City will soon have more greenways\u2026 but what exactly is a &#8220;greenway?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>   Getting to know greenways <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/dot\/downloads\/pdf\/greater-greenways.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Greenways<\/a> are continuous corridors used for both transportation and recreation, according to New York City&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/dot\/html\/bicyclists\/greenways.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Department of Transportation<\/a> \u2013 they provide an uninterrupted path between two destinations.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/greenways.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p data-v-0dea8073=\"\">New York City&#8217;s Department of Transportation <\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">There are a few different kinds of greenways: high-capacity, local and spurs.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">High-capacity greenways are long routes that often have the highest volume of users.
