{"id":143427,"date":"2025-08-13T21:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T21:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/143427\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T21:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T21:53:12","slug":"dallas-fed-report-texas-job-growth-slows-construction-declines-amid-economic-uncertainty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/143427\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas Fed Report: Texas job growth slows, construction declines amid economic uncertainty"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\"><strong>DALLAS<\/strong> &#8211; Texas employment and job growth slowed in June, according to a new report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.\u00a0The report also says tariffs and other factors are having a noticeable impact on construction projects in the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Aside from job growth falling, the Dallas Fed says while we see a bunch of cranes in the sky, construction contract values have declined nearly 30 percent since January.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Uncertainty has been the key word to describe 2025 from an economic standpoint.\u00a0<br \/>This week, the Dallas Fed released a report saying Texas&#8217; overall economic growth is trending lower.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/081325-jg-dallas-fed-report-construction-4vo-dial-_00.00.16.54.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What they&#8217;re saying:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Luis Torres is a senior business economist with the Dallas Fed and tells FOX 4 about the uncertainty with the Dallas economy going forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">&#8220;The word uncertainty pops out everywhere, right? Uncertainty, uncertainty going forward in the future, and that&#8217;s affecting their decisions, their business operations going forward,&#8221; said Torres.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">&#8220;From the report, what&#8217;s surprising is, first, the employment numbers. They came out negative for the state of Texas. That&#8217;s something that&#8217;s really rare for our state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> Construction impact <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Local perspective:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Tariffs also continue to impact the state economy.\u00a0One key example is construction.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Alan Hoffmann of Hoffmann Homes is also part of the Dallas Builders Association.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">&#8220;Yesterday, I had to pay $1,000 extra for a cistern that I&#8217;m installing at a property that we&#8217;ve developed in East Dallas,&#8221; said Hoffmann. &#8220;We look for predictability and stability and that&#8217;s really, I think what any business looks for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> Shortage of skilled workers <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Dig deeper:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What we\u2019ve heard from large and small businesses is that\u00a0it\u2019s hard to plan for the future with so much uncertainty about the cost of goods and materials.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The Dallas Fed report says residential construction is down by 7 percent and non-residential construction is off by 25 percent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The report does note that some of the declines since January are due to projects being completed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Another issue facing builders is a continued shortage of skilled workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">&#8220;The skilled labor shortage has been ongoing, and we are very actively involved with Collin College, Dallas College, and really helping the trade programs that are really being developed. We&#8217;ve seen accelerated interest in the trades because they are high-paying jobs.
