Google briefly explains:

You can now configure Find Hub when setting up your phone, allowing the device to be located remotely.

As is often the case with this changelog, that doesn’t tell us a ton on its own. While the feature hasn’t rolled out, it is hiding behind the scenes and has been enabled by Android Authority. By manually activating this new setup step, we can see that this page prompts users to adjust their Find Hub settings by angling it around finding “your device” while also helping others.

On this page, Google shows just two options. “Findable in busy places only” is the default and corresponds to the existing “high-traffic only” option. Google explicitly says that this option “may make it harder to find items in remote areas.” The other option is “Findable everywhere,” which matches up with “in all areas.”

Advertisement – scroll for more content

Google is introducing this change with the latest Play Services update, v25.24, but it’s not live yet. It could be quite a while before we start seeing this on all devices, but it’s certainly a welcome change. The default setting for Find Hub (previously Find My Device) is a contributing factor to why the network doesn’t always work as well as alternatives like Apple’s AirTag.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for the full rollout over the coming months.

More on Find Hub:

Follow Ben: Twitter/X, Threads, Bluesky, and Instagram

FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. More.

Google is making a change to Android device setup that will prompt users to change their Find Hub…

[17
611,158,67,132,68
0":"post-14350","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mobile","8":"tag-mobile","9":"tag-technology","10":"tag-united-states","11":"tag-unitedstates","12":"tag-us
["GET
