{"id":143551,"date":"2025-08-13T23:00:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T23:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/143551\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T23:00:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T23:00:09","slug":"stripe-apologizes-for-customer-service-agents-claiming-lgbtq-products-were-banned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/143551\/","title":{"rendered":"Stripe apologizes for customer service agents claiming LGBTQ products were banned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Stripe, a financial services company that acts as a payment processor for millions of businesses including itch.io, has issued an apology following reports that members of its support team told callers the business does not support the sale of LGBTQ content.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cWe apologize: the information given by our support team was totally wrong,\u201d said Stripe spokesperson Casey Becker in an email to The Verge. \u201cStripe has no prohibitions on the sale of LGBTQ+ content or goods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cTwice today, when pressured, Stripe operators have said, plainly, that I cannot use Stripe for the purchase of LGBTQ content,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/dieselbrain.bsky.social\/post\/3lwa2ig3o4s2g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote Dieselbrain<\/a>, a monsterkink artist on Bluesky. \u201cNot just adult content, but explicitly LGBTQ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Others <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/madycast.com\/post\/3lwciacse6s2h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have shared recordings<\/a> of calls where Stripe representatives say that it prohibits LGBTQ content. The Verge has reviewed one recording where a caller asks for clarification on whether Stripe allows LGBTQ content. The Stripe representative then says, \u201cAs far as we know, no.
