Apple is always working a few releases ahead internally, so it comes as no surprise that web logs are already showing signs of devices running iOS 26.4<\/a> visiting websites. <\/p>\n

The iOS 26 release cycle is under heavy scrutiny after Apple failed to deliver<\/a> a promised more contextual Apple Intelligence<\/a> and Siri. The iOS 26.4 release seems to be carrying a lot of weight<\/a> features-wise, so it makes sense for testing to start as early as possible. <\/p>\n

According to<\/a> website visitor logs at MacRumors, there are already devices testing iOS 26.4. Nothing can be gleaned from these logs, of course, other than the operating system existing on a device that visited the website. <\/p>\n

However, it is interesting to note that Apple is already at this phase of testing for the early 2026 release. It also seems aptly timed with new leaks shared earlier Wednesday about Apple pushing forward with robotics<\/a> and home<\/a> efforts. <\/p>\n

What’s expected in iOS 26.4<\/p>\n

It’s hard to determine exactly when Apple is expected to launch certain features, like emoji or AI updates. Some speculate iOS 26.4 could include the new emoji<\/a> 17 update, but it could arrive at any time before that depending on Apple’s strategy. <\/p>\n

The new emoji 17 release will be finalized on September 9, 2025, which is also the rumored day<\/a> Apple will reveal the iPhone 17<\/a> lineup. Since the new iPhone<\/a> will ship with iOS 26, there won’t be any need for Apple to rush out the new emoji to entice upgrades. <\/p>\n

Apple tends to save the emoji update for releases when it would like to see faster user adoption. This can occur in point two updates, but iOS 18.4<\/a> had the emoji update this time around. <\/p>\n

The reason Apple would save the new emoji for iOS 26.4 is Apple Intelligence. Rumors suggest that Apple will debut the long-awaited more contextual Siri and Apple Intelligence, backed by the in-house Apple LLM, in iOS 26.4. <\/p>\n

If that’s the case, then Apple could drive adoption with something the wider consumer base will understand better \u2014 emoji. Apple Intelligence is built to stay out of the way, so it is harder to market to non-technical users versus the colorful icons. <\/p>\n

Given Apple’s usual release cycle, expect iOS 26.4 in early 2026 \u2014 possibly by April.
