Robin Kelly (IL-02) and Jes\u00fas \u201cChuy\u201d Garc\u00eda (IL-04)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/other-views\/2025\/08\/13\/black-brown-communities-immigration-trump-ice-robin-kelly-jesus-chuy-garcia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">published an op-ed in the Chicago Sun-Times<\/a>\u00a0proving that Black and Brown coalitions form a solidarity that is stronger in the face of President Donald Trump\u2019s cruel immigration policies:<\/p>\n<p><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lionpublishers.com\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Proud member of LION Publishers\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/proud-lion-publishers-member.jpg\" alt=\"Proud member of LION Publishers\"   class=\"no-lazyload\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cChicago\u2019s history is deeply rooted in the immigrants and diverse communities who have contributed to making it a thriving city, starting from its founder, Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable, a Black Haitian immigrant. Throughout the 19th century, Chicago welcomed waves of newcomers, from Europeans escaping famine, Mexicans seeking work and safety and Black Americans escaping Jim Crow oppression during the Great Migration. Each group shaped the city\u2019s culture, economy and politics. Chicago has always drawn its strength from this diversity. We are a city built by workers, by strivers, by those who believe in a better future \u2014 and we\u2019ve led the nation with laws that welcome and protect those newcomers. We cannot and will not be divided.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump is fanning a dangerous lie: that persecuting immigrants somehow benefits Black people. It\u2019s a divide-and-conquer strategy designed to pit our communities against each other. We need to call it what it is \u2014 and be clear: Donald Trump does not care about Black people.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Black and Brown communities stand together, we are powerful. We can fight back against these attacks \u2014 against mass deportations, catastrophic budget cuts and the politics of fear.
