Ahead of National Suicide Awareness Month in September, Jacksonville-based nonprofit LSF Health Systems is bringing together national, state and local experts to advance suicide prevention efforts across our community. Individuals and businesses throughout the community are encouraged to join the movement and become part of an integrated solution by taking a pledge at ZeroSuicideJax.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n Emma Benoit, a suicide attempt survivor, shares her story of transition from being in crisis to being a suicide prevention advocate. Her passion is to share her lived experience, coping mechanisms she has learned, and to illustrate that mental health challenges can affect anyone.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Erin Whitaker-Houck, Associate VP of Clinical Program Operations at LSF Health Systems, discusses the Zero Suicide Initiative, a national organization advocating mental health care, teaching people how to recognize and address potential self-harm in the business community. Participants are asked to pledge \u201cCARES\u201d (Check for suicidal signs, Ask if they\u2019re having self-harm thoughts, Reinforce that you care, Establish next steps for help, Stay in touch).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Dr. Misha Bogomaz, Director UNF Counseling Center, discusses how students may be impacted with mental health and anxiety issues, and the role of collegiate community (students, faculty, and staff) in supporting each other.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Zero Suicide Jax Summit is a month-long workforce initiative in advance of September\u2019s Suicide Prevention Month to raise awareness in recognizing and helping those in possible crisis. Last week, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams ordered a 14-day halt on additional construction at the site while witnesses testified at a hearing, part of a lawsuit seeking to halt operations and further construction. The temporary order doesn\u2019t include any restrictions on law enforcement or immigration enforcement activity. The judge concluded a multi-day hearing on Wednesday without making an immediate decision on whether to issue a preliminary injunction.<\/p>\n One of the most important pieces of mail is landing in mailboxes. The Duval County Property Appraiser wants you to look over your proposed tax notice. A newly released 10-page memo breaks down the decision and provides new insights into what led up to William McNeil\u2019s arrest back in February. The traffic stop came after William McNeil Jr. was seen parked at a house that was under active surveillance for drug activity.
