David Paterson endorsed Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 re-election bid Wednesday, offering the two-term mayor a boost as he faces <a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2025\/08\/12\/mamdani-viewed-favorably-by-46--of-city-voters-in-siena-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slipping poll numbers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEric is kicking it into high gear, he is taking no prisoners, he is moving forward,\u201d Paterson said at an event alongside the mayor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to have these situations where the government is falling apart and there\u2019s no leadership and nobody knows what to do. GO HOME!\u201d during a campaign stop on Staten Island<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The endorsement marks a reversal for Paterson, who had previously backed Andrew Cuomo in the primary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think that when that challenge was coming in the last weeks, that he was addressing it and was as present as I thought he should\u2019ve been during the campaign,\u201d Paterson said. \u201cHe is still a candidate in this race, but my choice is Eric Adams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams, who served with Paterson in Albany nearly two decades ago, welcomed the show of support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am proud today to be standing next to my friend, standing next to a real leader in this state and standing next to someone no matter what the obstacles were he always found a way to get through,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor, who has been courting Latino voters amid former President Donald Trump\u2019s renewed focus on immigration in New York City, also pointed to his record on issues important to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Latino community, when I ran for office, I asked, \u2018What do you want from me as the mayor?\u2019 And they clearly stated, \u2018We want to see our community in your administration.\u2019 They did. \u2018We want our city to be safer.\u2019 It is. \u2018We want to see our small businesses supported.\u2019 We are. So, things that were asked of me when running, I produced them,\u201d Adams said during an interview with Spectrum News Noticias.<\/p>\n<p>While Adams worked to shore up support, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani was met with chants of \u201cGO HOME! GO HOME! GO HOME!\u201d during a campaign stop on Staten Island as part of his \u201canti-Trump\u201d tour across the five boroughs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of the reason I stand before you as the Democratic nominee is that I went everywhere. I spoke to New Yorkers who voted for Trump. Whether it was on Fordham Road or Hillside Avenue. And I did not lecture them, I listened to them,\u201d Mamdani told the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough there are Staten Islanders who are passionate in their support for Trump. There are some of those who voted for both of us, and I do not blame them because what they may have heard is a through line of just how suffocating this cost-of-living crisis,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat separates me from him, one of the key differences is that I mean what I say.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Former New York Gov.
