The Texas Theatre<\/a> will host a special showing of the documentary \u201cAt the Pan-African Connection\u201d<\/a> in collaboration with the Oak Cliff Cultural Center<\/a>\u00a0for Marcus Garvey Day.<\/p>\n

Created by filmmaker Anthony Asota<\/a>, the project focuses on the Oak Cliff business located in the Glendale Shopping Center. Described as a bookstore, art gallery and resource center, the organization has provided high-quality products as a beacon of African culture since 1989.<\/p>\n

Asota in particular uses the project to focus on the socio-economic stalls of Black America, exploring the center to understand his community\u2019s struggles and find the answer: can they overcome these issues or did the unity and equity they sought die with past leaders?<\/p>\n

Following the showing of the film, a panel discussion will be moderated by Jerry Hawkins, founder of The Hawkins Archives and Works. Panelists include Akwete Tyehimba<\/a>, CEO and owner of Pan-African Connection<\/a>, Marilyn Clark<\/a>, founder of Black Cinematheque, and Patrick Washington, board chair of Dallas Weekly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Doors open Sunday, August 17 at 4 p.m. with the event starting at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $15.85 via Eventbrite<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Oak Cliff Cultural Center is located at 223 W. Jefferson Blvd. next to the Texas Theatre at 231 W. Jefferson Blvd.<\/p>\n
