The Wells Fargo Center is no more.<\/p>\n
Comcast Spectacor, the arena\u2019s owner, announced in May that the venue\u2019s name would change<\/a> to Xfinity Mobile Arena on Sept. 1. A ceremony is still planned for early September to officially unveil the new signage, but as of Thursday, the arena is officially taking its new name.<\/p>\n The Wells Fargo Center signage has long been gone or covered<\/a> from the external walls of the building, but advertisements for upcoming concerts and events still were described as being at the Wells Fargo Center until this week. <\/p>\n The arena, which is home to the Flyers and 76ers, confirmed Thursday on social media<\/a> that the name is now officially Xfinity Mobile Arena and its social media handle and branding were changed to reflect the new name.<\/p>\n Crews were stationed at the site on Thursday, affixing the new purple Xfinity Mobile Arena signage to the exterior of the building, and the LED banners surrounding the site advertising concerts and events referred to the building as Xfinity Mobile Arena, instead of the Wells Fargo Center, like they had a day earlier.<\/p>\n The new naming rights will last through 2031<\/a>, when a new shared Sixers and Flyers arena<\/a> is set to open in South Philly. The arena also will be home to the area\u2019s new WNBA team, which set to debut in 2030.<\/p>\n Xfinity Mobile Arena is the building\u2019s fifth name since its opening in 1996, following the CoreStates Center, First Union Center, Wachovia Center, and, of course, the Wells Fargo Center, which had been the arena\u2019s name since 2010.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Wells Fargo Center is no more.
