The Florida Trust for Historic Preservation recently named it one of the 11 most endangered historic sites in the state.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/https:\/\/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com\/cmg\/37W4V5JBDNCSXJPJ4N7TCGIRXM.jpg\" width=\"1440\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1htor29-0 jibCgM image-metadata\">Historic Oneida Bungalow Court Historic Oneida Bungalow Court, located in Jacksonville, has been named one of Florida&#8217;s 11 historic endangered places. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\"><b>[DOWNLOAD: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/mobile-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/b><\/a><b>]<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Owner Spencer Fletcher \u2014 a house painter who says he believes in preserving history \u2014 estimates it would take at least $1.5 million to overhaul the property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">He\u2019s asking the city to provide basic infrastructure upgrades, including sidewalks, curbs, stormwater drainage and street lighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cHistorically, it was a freedman\u2019s neighborhood, set up for emancipated slaves in the 1870s,\u201d Fletcher said, adding that decades of neglect, rising insurance costs and dwindling rental income have pushed the court to a breaking point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Fletcher says he has repeatedly requested city help with infrastructure and explored funding options, but hasn\u2019t found a workable path. \u201cThe answers I got from City Council were: it\u2019s too expensive. It\u2019s not in the budget,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Council member Jimmy Peluso told Action News Jax that Fletcher did not accept an option the city offered. Peluso would not specify the option but said a revolving loan program is available and that he \u201calso offered something else, but it required rents to be at least 60% AMI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Fletcher said Oneida is one of only a few surviving bungalow courts of its era in Jacksonville \u2014 and the last remaining cluster of historic homes tied to West Lewisville.
