{"id":146078,"date":"2025-08-14T21:29:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T21:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/146078\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T21:29:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T21:29:12","slug":"liverpool-carragher-excludes-isak-as-he-names-next-five-reds-signings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/146078\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool: Carragher excludes Isak as he names next five Reds signings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has named the five signings that the Reds need but isn\u2019t convinced a move for Alexander Isak is a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>The Reds have been very active in the summer transfer market <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/every-premier-league-transfer-release-completed-summer-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>with six new players coming in and seven players leaving permanently<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/liverpool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Liverpool<\/strong><\/a> already had a strong squad after winning the Premier League title at a canter last season in Arne Slot\u2019s first season at Anfield.<\/p>\n<p>It looks likely that the Reds will sign at least three more players with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/liverpool-medical-today-leoni-parma-romano-here-we-go-transfer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni to complete his medical at the club today<\/strong><\/a>, while Crystal Palace\u2019s Marc Guehi and Newcastle United\u2019s Isak remain top targets.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking before the Leoni news was revealed on Thursday, <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=luVgetzI97Q&amp;t=100s&amp;ab_channel=TheOverlap\" target=\"_blank\">Carragher said on the Stick To Football podcast<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cThey\u2019ve got to get at least one centre-back, maybe two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carragher added: \u201cLiverpool need two more attackers because they\u2019re going to sell Harvey Elliott and they\u2019re probably going to sell Federico Chiesa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/alexander-isak-contract-newcastle-liverpool-mailbox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mailbox: Alexander Isak told \u2018you signed a contract my dude\u2019 as buy-out clauses mooted<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As previously revealed, Carragher would not spend \u00a3150m on Isak and would maybe spend it on another player who could play second fiddle to Hugo Ekitike.<\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool legend continued: \u201cIt [a forward signing] could be another player. I\u2019m not fully invested in breaking the bank for Isak. It\u2019s not about him as a player, I do worry about how robust he is to play twice a week for Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you break the British transfer record for a player, he has to play virtually every game. He only doesn\u2019t play when he\u2019s injured.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEkitike, who Liverpool think is going to be the next Isak, would then have to be an understudy but I think he\u2019s too good and too expensive to be an understudy. You\u2019re only going to play when he\u2019s injured<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not like Ekitike will have a year to learn the ropes and then become first-choice \u2013 Isak will still be there as your centre forward next year. For me, it\u2019s been done the wrong way around.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he [Isak] costs that much money there will also be a pressure on the manager to say, \u2018He\u2019s my guy\u2019 and play him.
