BEXAR COUNTY, Texas<\/strong> \u2013 An off-duty San Antonio police officer is charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) after he crashed into a home\u2019s front yard earlier this month in west Bexar County.<\/p>\n

David McCall was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center after turning himself in Thursday morning, San Antonio police said. He was released on bond, just before 11:30 a.m., according to county jail records.<\/p>\n

A toxicology report showed David McCall\u2019s blood alcohol concentration of 0.238, according to an arrest warrant. The .238 is nearly three times more than the legal limit to drive in Texas (.08). <\/p>\n

On Aug. 5, Bexar County Sheriff\u2019s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle, driven by McCall, 58, that crashed just before 4 p.m. in the 3400 block of Coryell Cove. <\/p>\n

McCall, who SAPD said Thursday is an 18-year veteran of the department, \u201cappeared conscious but was unresponsive to verbal attempts to communicate and was struggling to breathe,\u201d a BCSO incident report states.<\/p>\n

Investigators noted a six-pack of beer and an unopened bottle of wine inside McCall\u2019s vehicle, as paramedics performed life-saving care on McCall, the report shows.<\/p>\n

An affidavit to draw a sample of McCall\u2019s blood states he was \u201capologetic\u201d at the scene and repeatedly asked whether he had hurt anyone in the crash.<\/p>\n

McCall also stated he did not mean to be rude to law enforcement, the warrant states.<\/p>\n

Deputies followed an ambulance as it took McCall to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n

Nurses at the hospital detected alcohol on McCall\u2019s breath and a BCSO investigator then took steps to obtain the warrant for a blood draw, records show.<\/p>\n

The toxicology results are pending and BCSO investigators will use the results to determine if McCall was intoxicated at the time of the crash and if medical complications contributed to the accident, records show.<\/p>\n

SAPD officials confirmed to KSAT on Aug. 6 that McCall has been placed on administrative duty while its internal affairs unit investigates the incident.<\/p>\n

SAPD officials referred additional questions about the crash to BCSO.<\/p>\n

McCall is the second SAPD officer in the last two weeks arrested on suspicion of DWI. <\/p>\n

On July 31<\/a>, longtime San Antonio police officer Paul Fencik was arrested while on-duty, after SAPD supervisors detected the odor of intoxicants coming from Fencik during roll call. <\/p>\n

Fencik drove his patrol vehicle out of the substation parking lot, SAPD said. A lieutenant then called him back and Fencik returned right away.<\/p>\n

During a search of Fencik\u2019s patrol vehicle, police said they found an open beer container in the center console and a cooler filled with unopened beer.<\/p>\n

He was taken into custody and charged with DWI with a blood alcohol content over .15, jail records show.<\/p>\n

McCall is the fourth SAPD officer that has been arrested this year, according to a KSAT Investigates analysis. <\/p>\n
