\n\tSlipknot<\/a>, the platinum-selling masked nu metal band, is reportedly exploring a sale of its publishing and recorded masters royalties. According to sources, the band has either completed or is nearing a deal with\u00a0HarbourView Equity Partners\u00a0valued at approximately\u00a0$120 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to\u00a0Luminate, Slipknot\u2019s recorded masters catalog has generated\u00a014.6 million album consumption units\u00a0in the U.S., including\u00a06.8 billion streams. When global streaming data is included, the band\u2019s music has generated a total of\u00a015.73 billion streams\u00a0worldwide, Luminate figures show.<\/p>\n

\n\tSources indicate that\u00a0Slipknot retains ownership of its publishing, which is a key component in what\u2019s up for sale,\u00a0while the\u00a0master recording catalog is controlled by Warner Music Group (WMG), following its 2007 acquisition of Roadrunner Records. As a result,\u00a0only the band\u2019s royalty income is currently being offered for sale. Additionally, it remains unclear whether\u00a0all band members are participating in the sale.<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on\u00a0Luminate data,\u00a0Billboard\u00a0estimates that over the past three years, Slipknot\u2019s master recording catalog has averaged\u00a0740,000 album consumption units annually in the U.S.\u00a0and\u00a02.31 billion global streams per year, generating approximately\u00a0$15.5 million in revenue. What\u2019s more, Billboard estimates the publishing catalog generates $5.2 million in publishing royalties.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIf the band was averaging an estimated\u00a0blended rate of 25% of royalties on its master recordings\u00a0and\u00a085% on publishing\u00a0(after administration fees), the combined royalty pool would total around\u00a0$8.9 million annually. At a\u00a0$120 million valuation, that implies a\u00a013.5 times earnings multiple. However, sources suggest\u00a0not all band members are selling, and the actual income stream on offer may be closer to\u00a0$6\u2013$7 million, indicating a\u00a0higher 17 to 20 times multiple.<\/p>\n

\n\tSlipknot\u2019s recent activity has fueled renewed interest in its catalog. In the second half of 2024, the band marked its 25th anniversary with the\u00a0Here Comes the Pain\u00a0U.S. tour, followed by a European leg in June 2025. Adding to the momentum, Slipknot will release a\u00a025th anniversary box set<\/a>\u00a0of its self-titled debut album \u2014 with multiple variants \u2014 on\u00a0Sept. 5.<\/p>\n

\n\tSources add that the deal being shopped did not offer a future component, meaning that new songs and records are not a part of what would be a part of the HarbourView deal. While Roadrunner and WMG appear to be handling the band\u2019s records in North America, Sony Music Publishing is listed as the administrator for most of the band\u2019s catalog, a spot check of SongView indicates.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSince Sherrese Clarke<\/strong> founded HarbourView in 2021, the firm has accumulated almost $3 billion in music and entertainment assets, including a combination of active and passive publishing and master royalty\u00a0properties. The catalog includes stakes in songs and\/or records by Kelly Clarkson, Wiz Khalifa, George Benson, Fleetwood Mac and James Fauntleroy, among others.<\/p>\n

\n\tSources say the Slipknot deal was being marketed by\u00a0Cory Brennan<\/strong>, the band\u2019s manager and CEO of\u00a05B Artists + Media, along with assistance from\u00a0a few of the band\u2019s attorneys.<\/p>\n
