Google’s Material 3 Expressive<\/a> era will go official with next month’s Pixel Feature Drop, so the company has been working feverishly to make sure all of its core apps are ready for the rollout. Just yesterday, we saw Chrome for Android giving the expressive treatment<\/a> to its settings menu and Files by Google refreshing large swaths of its UI<\/a>. Now, it’s time for the Fitbit app on Wear OS to shine. <\/p>\n

New app icons have started showing up<\/p>\n

As spotted by an Android Police tipster, the Fitbit app for Wear OS has started rolling out new icons on Google’s Pixel Watch series. They’ve been revamped for all the app’s various shortcuts, including Fitbit Exercise, Fitbit Relax, and Fitbit Today.<\/p>\n

The new icons are a bit lighter overall and feature more detail. Where the old icons used silhouettes against colored backgrounds, the new ones use gradients and shading and are placed against a white background. These changes can be seen in both the icon-only (above) and list views (below) in the Wear OS app drawer.<\/p>\n

New tiles are on their way, too<\/p>\n

New Material 3 Expressive tiles have also shown up in the Pixel Watch app, though they’re not live on the watch side just yet. Still, it’s clear that Google is going big and bubbly with the redesigned tiles, as almost all the options feature larger and bolder elements.<\/p>\n

The tipster spotted these changes on version 3.5.0<\/a> of the Pixel Watch app for Android and version 3.40 of the Fitbit smartwatch app, running the latest stable build of Wear OS. But updating won’t necessarily trigger the new UI, as it appears that Google is in the early stages of a phased rollout where the Material 3 Expressive look is activated by a server-side switch.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first Wear OS app to get the Material 3 Expressive treatment. Google’s Phone app started receiving its redesign<\/a> on smartwatches last month, and Google Messages followed suit<\/a> two weeks later. But perhaps the most exciting Material Expressive redesign is the one coming with Wear OS 6<\/a>, which has been in testing since May and should make its official Google debut on the upcoming Pixel Watch 4<\/a>. <\/p>\n
