{"id":14672,"date":"2025-06-25T22:41:11","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T22:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/14672\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T22:41:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T22:41:11","slug":"trump-calls-out-misguided-putin-says-us-could-send-patriot-missile-systems-to-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/14672\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump calls out &#8216;misguided&#8217; Putin, says US could send Patriot missile systems to Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Trump took a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/24\/us-news\/trump-set-to-meet-zelensky-for-first-time-since-pope-francis-funeral-after-zinging-putin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rare dig at his Russian counterpart<\/a>, Vladimir Putin, following this week\u2019s NATO summit in the Netherlands before telling a Ukrainian reporter that \u201cwe\u2019re going to see\u201d if Washington is able to supply <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/24\/world-news\/russian-attacks-on-ukraine-kill-14-civilians-as-zelensky-travels-to-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patriot missile systems <\/a>and munitions to assist Kyiv in its war against Moscow\u2019s invasion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know one thing: He\u2019d like to settle, he\u2019d like to get out of this thing. It\u2019s a mess for him,\u201d Trump told reporters in The Hague before departing the two-day gathering of Western leaders. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI consider him a person that\u2019s, I think, been misguided. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Gray TV reporter Jon Decker had pressed Trump about whether he views Russia as an adversary or whether he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/24\/opinion\/a-peace-through-strength-iran-russia-bank-shot-for-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">believes that the Kremlin has its sights set on territory beyond\u00a0Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s possible. I mean, it\u2019s possible,\u201d Trump replied to the latter question.<\/p>\n<p>Despite some of his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/28\/us-news\/trump-tells-zelensky-hes-gambling-with-wwiii-in-heated-oval-office-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high-profile dustups with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/a>, Trump also  admitted that Putin was the \u201cmore difficult\u201d leader to engage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVladimir Putin has been more difficult. Frankly, I\u2019ve had some problems with Zelensky,\u201d Trump told reporters when asked about his campaign pledge to end the war in 24 hours. \u201cIt\u2019s been more difficult than other wars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also showed empathy for BBC Ukraine correspondent Myroslava Petsa after she asked the president \u201cwhether or not the US is ready to sell anti-air missile systems to Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that Russia has been pounding Ukraine really heavily right now,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Before addressing her question, Trump asked Petsa: \u201cAre you living, yourself, now in Ukraine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Trump listens to a question from BBC Ukraine reporter Myroslava Petsa (below) following the NATO Summit at The Hague in the The Netherlands. instagram\/saintjavelin<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband is there,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd me with the kids, I\u2019m in Warsaw [Poland], actually. Because he wanted me to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs your husband a soldier?\u201d Trump asked, to which Petsa answered: \u201cHe is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s there now?\u201d the president asked again, with Petsa responding affirmatively.<\/p>\n<p>A visibly moved Trump responded, \u201cwow, that\u2019s rough stuff, right? That\u2019s tough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BBC Ukraine correspondent Myroslava Petsa revealed to President Trump that her husband is a Ukraine soldier. instagram\/saintjavelin<\/p>\n<p>Trump then went on to affirm that Kyiv wants to buy the weapons from the US \u2014 and pledged that \u201cwe\u2019re going to see if we can make some available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, they\u2019re very hard to get. We need them too,\u201d the president said. \u201cWe were supplying them to Israel, and they\u2019re very effective \u2014 100% effective. Hard to believe how effective. And they do want that more than any other thing, as you probably know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a very good question, and I wish you a lot of luck,\u201d Trump told Petsa. \u201cI mean, I can see it\u2019s very upsetting to you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSay hello to your husband, OK? UKRAINIAN PRESIDENTIAL PRESS SERVICE\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we did what everybody here wants us to do, and that is come in and crush them with more sanctions, we probably lose our ability to talk to them about the cease-fire, and then who\u2019s talking to them?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/video\/2025\/06\/25\/exclusive-marco-rubio-sits-down-with-politico-at-nato-summit-1668156\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Politico<\/a> in an interview on the sidelines of the summit.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/25\/world-news\/volodymyr-zelensky-dons-suit-for-donald-trump-meeting-at-nato-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">met with Zelensky earlier Wednesday<\/a>, after which the the Ukrainian leader said he \u201ccongratulated President Trump on the successful operation in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important that the US actions have weakened not only their nuclear program but also their drone production capabilities. We will continue to keep an eye on the situation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe discussed the protection of our people with the president \u2014 first and foremost, the purchase of American air defense systems to shield our cities, our people, churches, and infrastructure,\u201d Zelensky explained in a readout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUkraine\u00a0is ready to buy this equipment and support American weapons manufacturers. Europe can help. We also discussed the potential for co-production of drones.
