{"id":146874,"date":"2025-08-15T04:22:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T04:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/146874\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T04:22:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T04:22:24","slug":"social-security-beneficiaries-may-see-2-7-cola-increase-in-2026-payments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/146874\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Security beneficiaries may see 2.7% COLA increase in 2026 payments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Donald Trump spoke about the 90th anniversary of Social Security and the administration&#8217;s efforts to improve customer service for beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>The projection for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/fox-news-social-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Social Security&#8217;s<\/a> annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for next year is getting higher, according to a new report.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Citizens League on Tuesday released an update that showed its model now forecasts the 2026 COLA will be 2.7% as of July \u2013 an increase from its previous estimates of 2.5% in May and 2.6% in June.<\/p>\n<p>The uptick comes as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">inflation has trended higher<\/a> in recent months. (iStock \/ iStock)<\/p>\n<p>The report comes as Social Security is marking its 90th anniversary on Thursday, as the safety program faces mounting financial challenges that are projected to lead to its insolvency in less than a decade barring reforms.<\/p>\n<p>The trustees of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/social-security-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Social Security&#8217;s trust funds<\/a> \u2013 which are currently used to augment payroll taxes collected to make payments to beneficiaries \u2013 said the trust funds are now expected to reach insolvency in the first quarter of 2034 following changes to tax policies under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/social-security-chief-fires-back-warren-over-agency-mismanagement-claims-performance-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>SOCIAL SECURITY CHIEF FIRES BACK AT WARREN OVER AGENCY \u2018MISMANAGEMENT\u2019 CLAIMS WITH PERFORMANCE DATA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) estimated that the trust funds will be insolvent in late 2032, at which time an automatic 24% benefit cut would occur because current law requires that benefits be reduced to match incoming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/taxes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">payroll tax<\/a> revenue if the trust funds are depleted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CRFB estimated that would amount to an $18,100 annual benefit cut for a dual-earning couple retiring at the start of 2033, or a reduction of about $1,500 a month in household benefits.<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/trump-obbba.jpg\" alt=\"WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 04: U.S. President Donald Trump, joined by Republican lawmakers, signs the One, Big Beautiful Bill Act into law during an Independence Day military family picnic on the South Lawn of the White House on July 04, 2025 in Washington, DC. Roosevelt in 1935 is &#8220;one of the most significant pieces of legislation ever signed into law,&#8221; adding that &#8220;we&#8217;re going to make it stronger, bigger and better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the campaign, I made a sacred pledge to our seniors that I would always protect Social Security and, under this administration, we&#8217;re keeping that promise and strengthening Social Security for generations to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You keep hearing stories that in six, seven years, Social Security will be gone and it will be if the Democrats ever get involved, because they don&#8217;t know what they&#8217;re doing.
